Well, my brother is graduating from high school soon and my family is going to get him a desktop. A couple years ago I built my own system (p4 2.8, Abit Max2, etc) but I'm a little rusty on the components out today.

The system needs to be around $1200, including a 19" LCD monitor.

I looked on newegg and built a Athlon 64 3200+ computer with an Abit mobo, 120gb hd, onboard sound/video, a $50 case/power supply, windows xp home, microsoft wirless keyboard/mouse, and a $379 monitor. All this was about $1250.

Basically I just am looking for a good mobo/cpu combo... I can probably figure out the rest.

This computer won't be playing games at all, just videos, music, cd burning, internet, and other basic stuff. I want it to be fast for that stuff, just not for games..

I suggest getting some kind of video card, reguardless of what you will be doing. Somthing like a geforce MX 440 will be very inexpensive, and will run videos etc much better than onboard. my 2cents.

use the search function, there are plenty of threads on the same topic in this sub-forum.

I'd say you'd be very smart to stay away from that $50 Case + Power supply. If there's something you have to skimp on, don't let it be something vital like your PSU.
