Recommend me a gaming LCD

Hi all ...

I need a little help. Finally took the plunge and bought the new system, and now I need a monitor to match it. Primary use for the computer is MMOs, so need something with a low response rate to keep ghosting well away. Have more than enough horsepower to push the higher resolutions, so would like to find something that can really shine. Budget is in the $500-600 range (cheeper is better tho'), so no 30" monsters (unfortunately ;) ).

Thanks in advance.

I've got a Dell 20.1 inch 2005fpw widescreen lcd. It was pretty cheap. I got it for around $420 with a 5 year warranty. It does everything you could want and not want. It has composite video hookups as well as s-video. It has height adjustment with the ability to turn the monitor vertical for portrait mode. It has Picture in Picture and Picture by Picture as well as other features. It also has I think 12ms response time which is pretty good for this size lcd. If you get one, I would buy directly from dell and get the newer version of this lcd, the 2007wfp because they supposedly were going to fix the backlight bleeding problem with the 2005fpw's. But anyhow, buy from dell, that way you can have Dell send you a replacement monitor before the bad one goes back if your monitor ever messes up. You can do this as much as you want. All in all, I am happy with my 2005fpw.

my Samsung 204B came by UPS today and is waiting for me at home right now. Ill be writing a full review on it tonight or tomorrow. For 20" LCD's it is probably gonna be one of the best for gaming purposes with its 5ms response rate. Keep a look out here, the review is coming soon.

im wondering the same thing.

but my friend had a high end laptop and he had an almost plasma looking lcd screen. was amazing.t he one i have now a samsung 19 inc sync master. jsut doesnt look anywher near as nice :(

There is a BIGASS thread somewhere here about the NEC 20.1" Widescreen LCD. It offers a 6 ms response, 1600:1 contrast ratio, a 450 cd/m2 (i think) brightness as well as a glossy covering. In other words, OWNAGE. However, it costs an OWNAGE price of around $7-800 bucks.

I personally have the Gateway 2185FPW. I definately love it, but if I had to choose I'd sacrifice the inch of diagonal space and get the NEC, because by far the NEC's display is the best that I have ever seen.

If you are looking for a regular 4:3, LG makes a L1970HR, a 19" that has a 2(!!!! probably a lie) ms response, 1600:1, pretty much same specs as the NEC but without the glossy coating. Is about $400.

yeah that LG looks like a good one but it's a BB exclusive model and it's sold out. I wish there was a 20" with those specs for 600 or so but that NEC OWNS flatout the best LCD out there not attached to a laptop lol.

I just bought the LG and I'm very pleased. It is sold out online at Best Buy and at most stores it seems, but stores in certain areas still have them (you can check through their website). Any idea if the exclusive BB thing is only limited for a certain time period? I've never heard of an LCD monitor being exclusive to a store, like some TVs. However, I've only followed them of late because I was making a purchase.

Is 8ms response fast enough for a 19" lcd for gaming?

Depends on the person viewing the monitor. Some people don't see ghosting, some do, its all up to your eyes. I would say that 8ms is fast enough for gaming, but if possible its always best to get the fastest.
