Can be red or green.

Current card: XFX Black Edition 6870 1GB
PSU: Corsair HX750
CPU: i7 860S - this is the lower power spec'd i7
RAM: Corsair 8GB
OS: Win 7 Ult
Case: Antec Solo II

Currently my setup is dead quiet. I want to keep it as quiet as possible. Ideally, I'm looking for low idle power/heat, with the ability to scale up to ~27"/2560x good gaming.

Budget is not an issue.
 
GTX 570.

EDIT: that is, assuming your budget is around $200.

I had the same decision, and I think another 6870 would work just fine. You will get great performance for less than half the price!

My decision was the 7870 though. I loved my 7870 and now my 7950(Couldn't resist for the price difference) feels sooooo good?
 
At that resolution avoid 1gb/gpu cards. Keep an eye on newegg refurbs and open box, there was a 7950 for 300 deal a few days ago.
 
Either add another 6870 or if you are willing to spend more, get a 7950. You can get them for amazing prices and they are excellent cards.

I went from 2x 6870 2gb cards to a 670 & game play was MUCH better with the single 670..
 
Seems like the 7950 has a slight advantage w/ 3GB, and I'm somewhat surprised at the 7950 price drops. Could use some help finding more 670 reviews at 2560x.
