what would you guys recommend for a good 2.1 system? im thinking of dropping maybe 40-70 dollars on one including shipping

its perhaps more important to me that it can go loud before distorting and have good bass. i might (although id rather not) be a bit more forgiving on the other aspects.

thanks

40-70 doesn't sound like alot for a "good" 2.1 set. I'm also thinking in CDN$ so that sets it off a bit too. Why not look at newegg and find some models you like then post them here. You may also be best to try and go down to your local best buy or whatever and try and demo them. Again I'm from canada so we don't have best buys here but our equivilent store has speaker demos setup.

i went to the local best buy and they were sold out of everything (two major colleges here that are served by that one best buy and school just started)

i did just order this: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=36-121-107&depa=0

the logitech z-2200 system, which by performance specs is quite nice

i got it for something like 113 shipped, and theres a 50 mailinrebate, which brings it into my price range.

what do you guys think of those? if anyonre can think of something better, i can always cancel it. thanks

I just set my girlfriend up with the Z-2200 and those are the nastiest 2.1's I've heard (and the $50 MIR just makes it better). The bass is awesome for a $50 (after MIR) speaker setup! Buy it... :)

Yeah i also jumped on that Z-2200 deal. I actually think they are very comparable to my Klipsch PM2.1s. And for the best bang for the buck they are definitely worth it.

I'm gonna argue that no 2.1 system I've heard yet compares with the Klipsch, so if you can eat the price tag, go for them. Best 2.1's I have come across, but now my bro has them and I'm running the Ultras ;)
