Can anyone recommend a game with really good graphics that can show me what this 5850 can do? I've got all the Crysis games, I know Grid 2 is one of the few DX11 games worth its salt, but what else is out there? Genre doesn't matter either. Thanks!

Grid 2? You mean Dirt 2? BFBC2 Is a good one, but the DX11 features wont be here till march when it releases.

Woops yeah I meant Dirt 2. Any recommendations for anything out there now?

DX11 games currently out:
Battleforge (via downloadable patch)
Dirt2
Aliens Vs. Predator
Stalker: Call of Pripyat

Out of those games currently out, AvP and Stalker CoP seem to be the only ones that can really show off Dx11.

The only other DX11 games coming out soon are:
Battlefield Bad Company 2 -March 2
Metro 2033 -March 16

All the other major DX11 titles seem to have undetermined release dates for now.

there are no DX11 games out right now. None. And there wont be for 3 years. People miss this fact alot. Direct X 11 is a whole different beast from DX10 or 9. It comes with DirectCompute and it looks like OpenCL really is going to make some headway.

That said, its a moot point because of the next gen consoles. Developers wont develope to this new API, or even the DX10 API because neither are supported by their money makers.

Here's the first DX10 game out though:

LOL. Troll much?:D

No, it isn't. Bad Company 2 is using DX11 only for additional shadowing features, and it is not present in the Beta. This comes from a Dice employee who post on Beynod2D forums.
can you please show me the where he says that? All I could find was this:

In the DX11 path we do a gaussian 5x5 shadowmap filter that looks way better than standard PCF.

never says that it's not working.

why does the game run if you specify dxversion=11?

Could be that the string when set to 11 defaults to 10. There is no difference if you set that string to either 10 or 11, in terms of image quality or performance. When DX11 is actually used, there will be a different algorithm used for shadowing, which will allow for better, more defined shadows with a smaller performance penalty. Frostbite 2 will be the engine that actually leverages the advantages of DX11.

Edit: Just did a quick test where I set the DXVersion=_ string to 12, and guess what, the game ran just fine. And that doesn't mean that it supports DX12 either.

fair enough, but the post on the battlefield blog to me reads like it's running right now.

They even say
The detection and usage of DX9/DX10/DX11 is done automatically, the game selects the highest possible version available with your graphics card and OS. If you want to force a given path you can do that in the Settings.ini file by setting 'DxVersion' to any of these options: 9, 10, 11 or auto (default).
The Settings.ini file can be found in My Documents\BFBC2 directory.
Why would they talk about how to change it if they weren't referring to the beta? People wouldn't be able to see that file without having the game installed. Maybe they don't fully utilize all the new features, but that doesn't mean it's not running.

They are referencing the game in general. DX11 features have not been added yet, as the beta build is an older (stable) build of the engine.

I'm way to lazy to source this. Google it.

Well... I dont think so. I think everyone is in agreement that thats the case. Modern PCs have upward of a billion transistors of compute power. Both next gen consoles have less than a third of that. Annoyingly, and ironically, they're, literally, last gen.

But if you want "a game" Dirt 2 is the only way to go. ATI paid Codemasters a million bucks to basically touch the new API. The result was indistinguishably better water effects (i think). A game built for direct X 11 could look a lot better, but as I said before, your not going to see a next generation game until the next generation of consoles.

The two exceptions to that might be a WOW2, or an HL3. I could see either of those going PC exclusive and if either do both developers will probably go big into some wicked cool new effects.

I'm just going to throw this out there: I was amazed at how good Dirt 2 looked. Maybe it was because I just bought my 5850 and there was some weird placebo halo effect going on there or something, but...the game just looks amazing. Moreso in the race review after you finish. Everything about it - the car reflections, the damage, the crowd detail, it's all pretty amazing in motion.

Do like.

Is supreme commander 2 supposed to be DX11??? if so, that game will be worth picking up(even without dx11 it would be : )

interesting. HBAO still ran like crap though, apparently it's been optomized in the release, but who knows...

But on that same point, I'm incredibly impressed with the amount of attention DICE is paying to the PC crowd this time around. Much appreciated.
