Recommend a video card Conroe E6600

I'm looking for the best video card that I can utilize with the following:

Processor- Core 2 Duo E6600
Motherboard- MSI P965 Neo
Memory- 4G of DDR2-800 dual channel
PSU- OCZ-520 12u
OS- W7 Pro
Monitor(s)- Two, possible three 1920X1080's or 1920X1200's (only game on 1 monitor though)


I currenty have the MSI P965 Neo mother board, 2G of dual channel DDR2-800, Vista Pro, a pentium D 945 and a XFX 7600GT

Is this upgrade worth it if I can get the e6600 cpu for 50~100$ used, 4G of DDR2-800 for ~100$ new (used?), and W7 Pro for 30$(student deal)?

Is it possible for this rig to support eyefinity with a single GPU? PCI slot is only X16, NOT 2.0 or 2.1 X16

I haven't done any gaming since CS and CS 1.6 and just want to ease back into FPS games.

I'd save up some more (like another $100 or so) and get a Phenom II based machine together. As lloose said, you're dealing with a really dated setup at this point.

Edit: This guy is selling a nice Phenom II X4 setup for $245 shipped, chip, board, and RAM, and you might be able to make him an offer for a little less even. Sell your current board, RAM, etc for a few bucks and you should be within budget and a lot better off than with the E6600. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1532885

What's your GPU budget if you were to sell your current setup and buy the above combo? If you can swing an additional $100-150 there are a few options. If you can do $200, look at a used Radeon HD 5850 or a GTX 460. That'd put you in a good place for a year or two, probably.

Agreed. It's too bad that mobo (from what I can tell) doesn't support quads. If you have V2 of the board, I think you might be able to pop a Wolfdale in there with a BIOS upgrade. Much better option.
 
Ya, if your motherboard is not the v2 version you are pretty much stuck with that cpu unless you upgrade the motherboard, cpu and RAM. If you are just trying to make your current setup last as long as possible before a big overhaul upgrade I think the GTX 460 would be your best bet.
 
Sorry, I just re read the original post. I thought you already had the e6600. If you are going to be spending money on a cpu and more RAM, I really would take the extra time and save up money for a new cpu/motherboard/RAM. You could get a i7 750 (soon to be 760), motherboard, and 4gb of DDR3 for about $400. I know it is $200 more, but if you saved up the extra money for this upgrade it would be sooooo much more cost effective in the long run since the setup I just mentioned will last you much, much longer than a e6600 upgrade would.
 
Are you willing to OC at all? OC on a e6600 can make a big difference.
 
That's a socket 775 motherboard right? Check with the manufacturer to see if you can do a bios update to have it support a quadcore. Because just putting in a quad core Q6600 will breathe new life into that platform, and you can find those for cheap on the buy/sell forums. E6600 is not a worthwhile upgrade for you.

This. My Q6600's a trooper at stock, and I'm planning on OCing it as soon as I get my new H50 in.
