Going to replace my ailing 250gb Western Digital Sata and looking for something with more capacity.

My spending limit is no more than $90 and will buy today hopefully.

In my experience WD drives fail too quickly, is there any other brand? Don't know too much about Raid and going to read up on it but I want a Raid setup.

Nice drive. I also heard something about the Spinpoints are they good?

I'm going to install Windows on this new drive and want it fast.

I don't have a problem with the SpinPoints quality its just that Seagate has a 5 year warranty as opposed to 1 to 3 on the spinpoints. Just my opinion...

I've never had a WD drive fail, and I've owned 10-12 over the last five years. That includes Raptor drives and both IDE and SATA drives from 80GB to 1TB.

If possible, I'd extend your budget to grab one of the 640GB WD drives, as they're one of the fastest around aside from the new 300GB raptor. Aside from that I'd just try to find a good 500GB deal for around $90.

That's a good track record..

I was also checking out this deal until I saw the reviews and all the DOA'S.

Would you be more comfortable ordering from a site with no review system whatsoever? Like a computer hardware forum, you're far more likely to post (in this case, review an item on Newegg) if it doesn't work.

Having said that, if you do trust the Newegg reviews:
The Samsung drive has 74% 5-stars
The Seagate 7200.10 drive has 56% 5-stars
The Seagate 7200.11 drive has 65% 5-stars
And the Western Digital AAKS drive has 72% 5-stars as well.

Good luck.

Ok thanks. I think my MB box has some extra data cables laying around.

In my earlier post I kind of crapped on the WD drives but the one I'm using has served it's purpose. My other 320gb is going strong. I just want to replace my first drive before something happens to it.

Ha ha, OMG my new Western Digital and my old Western Digital drives just shit on me! Yes they both crapped out on me at the same fucking time! I swear I hate Western Digital so much now.

It's not so much that I had my data backed up on my windows drive but my other drive where I keep my movies on unexpectedly crapped on me without warning. I'm right now forced to use my laptop for all my web surfing and heavy duty work if it can handle it.

Could it be that I upgraded my power supply to a more beefier 750 watt? My old PS was working when I took it out.

I got some great advice from some of the readers on (H)ard and I'm grateful and thanks. I just wanted to say that WD is a bullshit company and the crap that they put out STINKS! This is just my opinion and not a rant, I always make it a point to back up my data but I didn't expect two drives to die on me in the same weekend.

So I think this is the change I need, I'm going to buy a copy of Vista 64bit with a new brand of HD and see what happens.

Well, if 2 drives died at the same time, it prolly wasn't the drives.

That said, after your experience, I certainly would not buy anymore WD drives. I am very happy with my Seagate 500 Gig 7200.11. Currently going for 95 bux on Newegg!

It's not the absolute fastest 7200 Sata drive out there, but it is pretty darn close.
