My current keyboard is comming to the end of its life (11years or so). The amount of crap that has worked is way in is starting to make me drop letters when typing. I need a gaming focused keyboard without fancy gimmicky crap. A few extra keys I can set to launch shortcuts of my choice would be handy (not essential), but nothing else extra other than that. Response time/multistrokes are important, durability and robustness is very important. I think I cleaned my current keyboard every other year.

Durability important? Spend the extra dough for a mechanical keyboard and I promise you won't regret it. Not only will they outlast membrane keyboards, they provide a superior typing experience and the key caps are easily removed for cleaning. And you mentioned robustness -- they are built like tanks.

Just use a hotkeys app to configure certain key combinations to launch your shortcuts. Something like AutoHotkey or Qliner hotkeys.

Logitech g110 maybe?
Or Razer Lycosa if your not too picky.

I had a Lycosa for a few weeks, and it was hands down the worst keyboard I have owned. If you want a good keyboard with scissor switches, I recommend the Apple aluminum USB keyboard any day.

Otherwise, I recommend spending a little extra and getting a mechanical keyboard. I've owned a Filco brown and a Steelseries 6Gv2, and my favorite is the Steelseries. This comes down more to personal preference, but the Cherry MX black switches suit me better than the blues or browns. This will be different for everyone.

Mechanical keyboard sounds good. So recommend a mechanical keyboard.
Actually I think my current keyboard is mechanical, only problem is it is beige and the multistroke is bad, 2 tops.

Actually the Steelseries 7G caught my eye before, nearly bought it on impulse. Is the logitech g110 mechanical? The website doesn't say.

Filco or Das are pretty solid mechanical boards. I have a Filco Majestouch NKRO Brown at work (using cherry browns) to reduce the noise and a Das Keyboard Professional.(cherry blues) at home for typing awesomeness.

www.elitekeyboards.com for the filco's These are no nonsense keyboards, and are built very sturdily. I'd feel confident having this thing at my side during the zombie apocalypse.

Throw in autohotkey and you have your macro's set =)

Deck Legend ToXic! Why? Because I have one and I love it more than I love my girlfriend!

I would be sure to get a mechanical keyboard. You wont regret it.

I would recommend the 6Gv2 instead, as it is the same keyboard minus USB and audio jacks as well as a wrist rest, but it is $50 cheaper. Well worth the savings IMO.

Also, the G110 is not mechanical.
