recommend a harddrive to me please!

can i have some ideas? what harddrive for a hot place do you guys recommend under $250?
 
A rectangular one. Under $250 is pretty much the whole market at this point.

If hot means really hot, you might look into scsi; they're designed for harsher conditions.

 
Under $250? WD4000KD/YR, depending on whether you will be on a desktop or on a sophisticated RAID controller.

Hot? Define/clarify/expound please.
 
What do you need the drive for? The fastest possible load times at expense of capacity? Or high capacity for storage?
 
200gb... fastest possible 7200rpm (not 10k rpm, too hot). can i ask, does ide interface still has some life?

For one thing the only non-scsi 10k drives are raptors which come in 36gb and 74gb flavors. If you want fastest possible, get a drive with 16mb cache.
This is the only 16mb cache 200gb drive on newegg currently. Only SATA. If you want one of the fastest 7200rpm pata drive, get this 250gb drive - 5 year warranty on the Maxline III as well, the DiamondMax 10 only has a 3 year warranty.

its not 200gb,..

today hds are so cheap! :)
my 80gb drive takes almost 1 hour to format, how long does a 250 takes?

Circuit city has 300 gig drives on sale for $99 right now.

Around 3 hours ;)

If you use Partition Magic, it'll create the partition much faster, but it's usually a good idea to do the long format once on a new disk. Make sure it works under that much load, at least.
