recommend a good partition manager? (freeware)

The old tools Ghost or Partition Magic would be what I would use for that but unfortunately neither are free.
 
Yeah, I know... I have an old version of Partion Magic somewhere and unfortunatly can't find it at the moment!

Right now I'm leaning toward the EASUS program.
 
Well, EASUS screwed up my OS and I had to reformat. Would not even boot. Do you guys run more than 1 process at time, or do you have to run them separately for good results? All I'm trying to do is reduce D and increase C. Shouldn't be thar difficult!
 
Ghost isn't a partition manager and Partition Magic hasn't been updated in over 5 years - if you attempt to use it with Vista or Windows 7, get ready to reinstall the whole damned thing because it'll fuck everything up. Basically, it's to be avoided at all costs unless you're running XP or some older version of Windows.

Parted Magic is the one I'd recommend, free, works great, no issues with Vista or Windows 7, updated frequently, open source, and it gets the job done damned fine. Note that it is not Partition Magic - that's the commercial software I was just talking about. Parted Magic is a different app entirely.

Since you're dealing with XP the commercial Partition Magic is an option but I still avoid it nowadays at all costs since Symantec basically gave up on it years ago after buying PowerQuest (the company that created it, and DriveImage, etc). Symantec has that history of ruining most everything they touch and that was just another casualty.

Parted Magic will do you just fine.

I agree. I never understood their practice of buying up some software company to get a product then quit all development on the product such that the product dies in a few years.
 
I've been using the linux based gparted lately. It's by no means fast but it's proven reliable. I just queue up a bunch of tasks and run it overnight.
 
Well, I searched and finally found my old copy of PM8. Worked like a charm. I guess sometimes you get what you pay for!

And I agree with you comments regarding Symantec's software acquisitions - ever since they bought out Peter Norton's Utilities program which was a "must have" back in the DOS days!
 
Are you sure that you aren't running into the 128GB boot limit? If any XP files needed for the boot process get relocated beyond 128GB, you won't be able to boot.
