I'm getting a Prolimatech Megahalem and need a fan for it to pair with an i7 920 overclocked.

I have a Panaflo H1BX but it's kind of loud. What is a good fan with good performance that is quiet, doesn't have to be silent, but quieter the better while still performing well. What about a fan I can pair up and do push pull? Any recommendations are welcome. One with an LED or a pair, would be cool but not necessary. I basically want some performance from it without being as loud as my Panaflo is if such a thing exists. The panaflo is about 42dbA at 103cfm when running full speed. I don't have a fan controller.

Does anyone think I should just stick with my Panaflo for the 103cfm performance?

Thanks for the advice, I'm not sure about fans. I always looked at cfm numbers and went with one that was high. I don't know what is considered good. I mean I've seen fans that are silent but only like 40cfm and others like my Panaflo which are loud but 190cfm+

Get a Scythe Gentle Typhoon, If you think a 103CFM fan is only "kind of" loud, then you might not even be able to hear the GT fans...And you do not need that kind of CFM unless you are really trying to push the chip, anything really over 70CFM is pretty much overkill for day to day use. You also did not say what kind of OC you are shooting for, so you might even be able to do just fine with lower speed GT fans.

Well if I can get 3.8-4Ghz that'll be fine. So you think 70CFM would be able to handle this ok?

I think 70 CFM will still be over kill, unless you just HAVE to have that extra 5C lower temps, I think one or two of the lower speed GT fans I listed should be able to handle 3.8GHz depending on how good case airflow is.

Well, I have a HAF-932 case with all the stock fans and it moves a good deal of air in the right places.

What about the Gentle Typhoon vs the S-Flex? They seem similar in performance but the S-Flex offers higher cfm below 30dbA.

Would you recommend doing push/pull or just push? I don't know if I should get 2 or not. Price isn't really a concern.

Thank you for all your help thus far. I'm not sure what makes a good fan tbh even after reading informational reviews. I used to just go for high cfm, but now I find myself wanting to keep the noise down too.

I think most were in the same boat at one time or other...I use to have push/pull with a pair of 150+CFM Delta fans...I could hear them clear across my house. What I have found is that anything past 70CFM you don't see much in temp drop at all but get a very large jump in noise, I saw maybe a 5-6C drop from half speed to full speed...Not worth it.

If you have the cash, get 2, it's always a good idea to have a back up anyway, if you have a controller, get the high speed. With the 2 you get you can mess around with the single fan vs push/pull at given speeds and noise levels and see what is the best to your ears. I think the GT are better than the S-Flex, they seem to have a "smoother" sound, and move just as much air when used on a HS. However the S-Flex are still very good fans.

I like how the GT fans look too (not that it matters when it's spinning around). Think that's what I'll go with. Probably go with medium speed. 50CFM at 21dbA doesn't seem bad. I'd be cutting the sound rating in half, also cutting the CFM in half, but if it's as you say the more CFM isn't necessary, then It should still be very good.
