No brand loyalty here, and gaming isn't really a priority. Single card, support four monitors over DVI. Over PCIe obviously. Here, this might be easier:

  • Four simultaneous live DVI headers (4 monitors active at once)
  • Single card
  • Windows desktop only (no gaming priority, some video editing)
  • PCIe

Would like to keep cost between low to mid range. Like I said it's not going to be running Farcry 3 or anything.

What do you guys think?

What application software will you be using?

Why not get a standard AMD 78xx-79xx and use a couple of Displayport adapters?

It's for someone else, and they're not a gamer. I only said video editing as a kind of short-hand to make sure I picked the most demanding non-gaming function. He should be able to do anything, short of gaming, with zero performance hit.

I don't know. Cost? I assumed something like that would run higher than garrable's suggestion. Speaking of which...

Garrable, that second one you linked looks like a winrar. I just had a reservation about this line:

Support for 3 display gaming in full 1080p

I'm assuming that's just an in-game limitation right? It'll put out four signals in Windows?

That would be my assumption, because Nvidia's surround only supports 3 displays and not 4. From what I've read on that site and others you can use 4 displays at desktop but only 3 for games.

The 7850 wouldn't be a bad idea (certainly faster than the 560 and a generation newer) but I'm not sure if it would work with cheap passive mini-displayport to dvi adapters or if you would have to go with more expensive active adapters.

So this guy will run both the two DVI connections and the two Display port connections simultaneously (provided I have the right adapters)?

You need active adapters for anything above two displays. The active ones are under $30 each (for single link - up to 1920x1200 resolution), though, so it's not a huge deal.

Usually with 4 DVI's you'll have those pigtails that split into two. I don't think ive ever seen a card with 4 physical DVI ports.
