I am ordering a ECS C19-A SLI motherboard to get a better overclock from the processor. I also want to get a new video card since the motherboard is SLI

I do not play games on the PC (I play them on the xbox and ps2)

I do:
internet
watching tv and dvd's
creating home movie dvd's of my 2 girls
listening to cd and mp3's

What would you recomend for my system:

Pentium D 805 @ 3GHz
A-DATA Vitesta 1GB DDR2 667
EPoX EP-5LDA+GLI Motherboard
SAPPHIRE Radeon X1600XT (This is what I want to replace)
LG L3200TF 32" HD LCD TV
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS THX
Creative Inspire GD580 Speaker System
EVERCOOL EC-WC-601 Fan/Heatsink
POWERCOLOR T55E-P03 TV tuner card
Seagate Barracuda ST3320620AS 320GB HDD
SAMSUNG SH-S162L DVD Writer

forgot the power supply:
HIPRO HP-P500W/TOP-500P5 ATX V2.01 500W Power Supply

Based on what you posted, I see no reason to upgrade the video card. A single Ati card will work fine on an SLi board. Since you don't play PC games, I doubt you'll ever have a reason to go to a SLi setup, which is the only reason you'd need an nVidia card.

No need to do anything...leave it alone if you dont run any gaming apps such as Fear, CoD 2 or Oblivion.

Thanks everyone, I just thought since SLI is an nvidia thing that I would need an nvidia card, since I do not, that helps me save a chunk of change.

You will if you ever decide to go SLI.....btw why a SLI board and all the high powered components if you aren't going to game? You could have saved a chunk of change already..

I never overclocked anything before and wanted to try it, (i read that 4GHz article over at Tom's Hardware web site) and decided to try it.

I got the motherboard ($35) and video card ($50) cheap on ebay. I could not afford any 955/975 Chipsets or a new video card at the time.

I went with a large hard drive drive (present from wife for my b-day), because the TV card is setup as a PVR.

Got lots of RAM because I like to do the home movie thing (I got 2 baby girls) and scan pictures into the computer and place it all on DVD to send to family.

I got the creative products (did you know that creative sells refurb items on ebay) for a good surround sound when watching movies.

====================

Now I want to upgrade the motherboard because if I overclock the CPU I get these results:
1. up to 3GHz - No problems
2. anything above 3GHz - system gets unstable

I have read good things about the ECS C19-A motherboard ($80 new at newegg) - people reaching 3.3 and 3.4 without water watercooling (I still got lots to learn before even thinking about water)

3.3 - 3.4 GHz on a 3 Ghz machine, unless you are gaming isnt going to yield you much boost in performance in the apps you use the pc for. I wouldnt go buy a new mainboard just to accomplish this feat, remember, oc'ing yeilds different results from different people in different machines, especially since oc'ers have been known to....lets say......extend the truth. ;)

I recommend a 1ghz p3 with 256 megs of ram on windows XP home edition with a 9250, and a winfast 2000xp Expert tv/fm tuner.

Don't waste your money, your specs go leaps and bounds over what you need to do any of the above. The hardest thing you do is watch TV and that's why I recommended a 1ghz P3, that'll do it nicely, no doubt and it may even be overkill since my 366 celeron with 128megs of ram had too much of a delay. I bet it I had a 500mhz P2 it woulda ran just find with 256 megs of ram as well.

AH-HA, I always thought to myself "Is this for real?" :p

==================

I have read so many different posts and articles about overclocking, and it always seemed like a fun challenge to try. This is my one time because soon the kids will be running around and I will not have a chance to try this or even afford it.

What I want to do after oveclocking the CPU, is find a good case and mod it. I like this

NZXT LEXA-NP
