Hello,

I was looking around at video cards, and realized I need a new one, preferably high-end to play Counter-strike Source. I was wondering if anyone knew a whole lot about pci-e, because thats one thing I dont ;o

You do realize there isn't a game that fully utilize AGP 8X at the moment. There still isn't one game out there that even utilize the bandwith of PCI Express. The PCI express cards that are out right now are no different in performance as their AGP counterpart. If you're building a whole new system from scratch you should get PCI express (then later next year PCI express version 1.1 :p). But if you already have a high end AGP system just upgrade the video card.

The high end GeForce 6800 ultra PCI express version is out and at a heafty inflated price. Just like ATI :p So you better have some money to burn if you want to invest in this project.

I have a pci-e X800XT that performs pretty much exactly in line with the vast majority of benches on the agp version. However, as mine is in a HTPC, I'm really thinking I should have waited for the 6800 GT pci-e...*sigh*.

Get the GT and I'll trade ya ;D

stop trying to convince people not to buy PCI-E products. that annoys me.

X700 PRO/XT = mid rage
X800 XT/P.E. = high end

X600/X300 = not worth the money unless your a soccer mom

Get the x800XT, usually in stock at Newegg in PCI-E format. As for how CS:S runs on it, I get about 50FPS average in firefights at 2048 with 2xAA / 16xAF, never seen it drop below 30.

Ummmm....why are you asking about PCI-E?

Your motherboard doesn't support it?

Unless you are building a whole new system??

Wait for PCI-E 6800GT then get an Nforce4 mobo with SLI then when you got money again buy onother 6800GT and use the SLI. Or if you got the money then buy both lol. ;)

for a system I'm building for a friend, he needed an upgrade bad, and just got around $5k and wanted to spend some of it on a new system. ;)
