Our private game server is currently home to 100 or so players
(We just use a custom built pc usng advice/gear from [H]ard)

The router we use crashes often lately due to the massive amount of connects (port fowards?) it receives at one time.

Any reccomendation on a more capable router? (b, g ,a[dual or no dual] doesn't matter, just something strong)

What is your current router?
What kind of bandwidth is the server on?
You probably want something more SOHO grade, at least a 200MHz CPU with plenty of RAM. Netopia R series, Linksys RV082, Sonicwall SOHO/TZ series, etc.

Also the NIC in the server, since you're dealing with more than 50 concurrent connections...I'd be looking at a true server grade NIC, not a desktop NIC. For some public game servers I've built for co-location and big LANs...I used the 3COM 990svr NIC.
And a real server OS on there right? Tweaked with most services shut down so it's running lean and mean.
Good low resource antivirus? Game directories set in exclusion.

 Uh...what about it? Are you trying to tell me what's what the game server is running? Or tell him that's what he should be running? Or telling him to run a *nix router like Smoothwall or something?

Both. Thats what our game server uses. Well, its directly connected to the interweb.

Or a 'nix based firewall/router. Anything above a 500mhz p3 class machine will suffice.
