You know, the idea of actually rebuilding the web from scratch isn’t such a bad idea. Stanford University doesn’t think so and they have a whole bunch of smart people there.

The proposed program will focus on unconventional, bold, and long-term research that tries to break the network.s ossification. To this end, the research program can be characterized by two research questions: "With what we know today, if we were to start again with a clean slate, how would we design a global communications infrastructure", and "How should the Internet look in 15 years."

It certinaly could use some overhaul, but what ever happened to Internet 2 ? I realy dont see why we need to overhaul a network to carry a bunch of porn and torrents around. Anything that requires a higher level of service is point to point, or can utilize Internet 2.

I don't see the point in "overhauling" our networks... our current networks have load balancing and routing, so there is no reason to guess what a replacement would be like... you can simply add to the existing one and it will fold a few times in performance vs as removing and starting from scratch.

I'm sure starting from scratch would give us the perfect mesh network, however, it would be economically unfeasible.
