Quick question, folks...

I'm about to build a new PC, and I'm transferring my current hard drives to it, but I'm not sure what's gonna happen to my RAID arrays.

I have two RAID 0 arrays. One is on a PCI card (Sil chipset), the other is on the mobo (Asus P4P800-E, Intel controller).

How do I rebuild my arrays on the new mobo without losing any data? The new mobo is an Asus P5B Deluxe.

What I don't know is if the drives that were RAID'ed in the old system will be recognized as pairs of 2-disk arrays and if the controller is going to reassign them as pairs again without losing any data.

Just recreate the arrays on the new machine, then restore from backups. You do have backups, yes?

Moving the drives to a different controller may work... or it may silently corrupt all your data. Your choice.

As noted, backup reimaging is best, but since you're using the same PCI RAID card and people have had success moving from one Intel controller to another, you should be in luck, but you should definately be prepared to lose the arrays.

Yeah backup never hurts. You learn from experience took me a 2 times to realize this, luckily it wasn't anything i couldn't get back.

ditto on the backup, i lost over 600gb on my server (went to do a move) :( :( but it was all backed up so i was lucky...
