I have been out of touch for while and recently decided it was time to upgrade my current system. I'm currently running with an MSI MS-7390 mobo, AMD 64 x2 5000+, 2GB ram, Geforce 8800gt 512 video card, 19" LCD, BFG 650W power supply and Win XP.

I'm mainly looking to upgrade the mobo/cpu and ram as well as replacing my two small hard drives with a larger single drive. I'm in the US and most likely planning to order from newegg. I mainly play games like RIFT and maybe some older games.

Here is what I was looking at ordering from newegg and would like some feedback:

MSI Mobo $55

AMD Athlon $61

Crucial 4 GB Ram $40

WD 500 GB Hard Drive $40

Windows 7 $100

This comes just under $300 before and taxes or shipping. That's kinda the ballpark I'd like to stay (maybe up to $350). I am going to reuse the case I have, power supply, etc.
 
Yes and no. About 3 hours from the Kansas City one, but not realistic to go up there since I'd have to rent a car (I don't trust mine to make it lol).
 
Not worth a 3 hour drive unless you have something to do there.

At MC you could get a quad AMD + mobo for 100 + tax.
 
Yeah, not worth the car rental + gas + time. I'm 3 hours (unfortunately) from that same Microcenter. Motherboard seems decent. Look and see if they have any combo deals for that. I have company coming over soon but I'll try to remember to check it out for you later.
 
thanks for the advice. I decided to order the biostar combo and the single 4gb ram stick as well as the other things I was looking at. $300 is a pretty cheap price to upgrade what i've got, so i can't complain. Eventually I'll replace my old case with a newer one.
