Rebooting Problem

I just recently put together this system (http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=6505626) and I am having an issue with the PC restarting on a cold boot multiple times. I'll give you a run down on what happens.

1. Turn on PC via power button
2. PC boots for 10-15 seconds and restarts (sometimes I can hear drives being accessed, others times they are not)
3. PC finally boots and I get signal to my monitor
4. Bios settings are unchanged after boot (still overclocked @ 3ghz)

Once it boots successfully its stable in Vista and various games. This problem occurs less when at stock speeds but it still happens. Any thoughts or previous experience in diagnosing this problem? If more information is needed I will supply it.
 
If your system wasn't 100% stable, including booting up, then you probably shouldn't have started overclocking it.

I'd start by adjusting memory voltages and running a program like MemTest86+ to make sure your memory isn't producing any errors. 2.1 volts to 2.2 volts is usually a happy place for most DDR2.

The Northbridge might also be asking for some more voltage. Bump the MCH up by +0.1 or +0.2 volts as well.
 
After doing some research I'm chalking up my problems to be related to my RAIDMAX being unable to handle the load on startup. I was (and still am) strapped for cash when I ordered the parts for my build so I had to cut corners and it looks like I'm paying for it with unreliable boot & post. Hopefully, it will last me long enough till I can afford a quality replacement. :rolleyes:
 
If you recently purchased it, return it to Newegg.

The cheapest PSU I'd recommend is the XClio Goodpower 500W. If you have a bit more money to spend, the Enhance 5150GH 500W is a better quality PSU. If you have even more money, the Corsair 520W (from some other place than newegg; zipzoomfly, clubit.com, buy.com) is one of the best PSUs you can get for that price range.

I would return the PSU but I already sent in the MIA and I couldn't handle not having a decent gaming PC for however long the turn around time on the RMA and replacement would take. I'm still paying off what I owe on the parts but in a month I can afford a good replacement.
 
It might be the gigabyte motherboard, they do that when they aren't happy with something. Are you running the latest BIOS? Check your RAM settings/timings, maybe give them extra volts, as that's the most common problem when reboots happen to me. Easiest way to check and see if the PSU is being overloaded is to unplug everything you dont need (HDD, optical drives, etc.) and see if the problem persists.
 
Yeah, I fixed my reboot issue with my DS3L. Had to disable detect legacy USB devices in bios and that did trick. So much nicer to have the computer boot on the first try. :D

Probably still upgrade to a more reliable PSU when I get the funds to do so.
