Why would a VGA connection look better on my 1080p LCD then a HDMI connection?

i want to use my VGA connection for my xbox 360 and use HDMI for my PC but the picture is not as sharp. it has 1080p signal but it just doesnt look as sharp. it looks the same as when i had my PC hooked up via component.

I have a GTX260 and the LCD monitor in question is a Samsung LN46A500.

any help would be welcomed. thanks.

it's possible that the VGA is interpreted as PC signal and will by default be scaled to fit the screen exactly.

The HDMI could be interpreted as TV signal which is usually cropped a little on all sides, and therefore scaled up slightly.

Take a look at the scaling options, 1:1 pixelmapping could be called sth like "just scan" on samsung models.

If that's not the problem, and all image "enhancement" features of the TV are deactivated, no idea...

thanks for your reply, i have messed with every setting on the tv and nvidia control panel... its like you said, it seems like its not 1:1 pixelmapping, the text isnt as sharp via hdmi as it is via VGA.

i guess ill live with xbox on component.. not like that system needs a really sharp image that vga gives, it has oversized fonts anyways, component just fine for it..

VGA for PC use it is..
