I'll get straight to the point. I've finally isolated the problem with the CAT 6.2 drivers. It's with one file, the D3D driver aka ati3duag.dl_ in an install package, and named ati3duag.dll once it's properly installed in your /windows/system32/ directory.

Catalyst 5.13 reported normal test scores in 3dMark and cpu limited games, and CAT 6.2 showed a marked decrease. Understanding this, I decided to set out and find the exact file causing the issue. First I ran both sets of drivers without CCC installed and had the same results: the cat 6.2's were eating up 20-30% extra processing compared to the 5.13 drivers. Understanding it was not a CCC issues, nor a CAT AI issue etc, I decided to see if there was something else causing the problem. So I ran 69 tests in a row...Crossfire-based motherboards (maybe only Asus A8R-MVP oqwners, since I've yet to see data from any DFI owners) are affected.

6.2/6.1 D3D Mix Driver
suggest you uninstall then use driver cleaner in Safe Mode

I didnt know it was slow...
Its fine with my X800XT no slow downs here and the CCC takes the same amount of time.
Anyone else have any slow speed issues?

So far, this bug has ONLY been duplicated on Crossfire motherboards with Radeon X1900 video cards.

I have a non-Crossfire ATI Xpress motherboard with a Radeon X1600XT, and doing the same testing cannot duplicate this problem in any way.

Nothing to be worried about yet!

I have a DFI NF4 SLI board and I didn't get any decrease in performance.

All my scores increased with the 6.2, ( X1900XTX.)

I lost about 300 points in 3dmark06 going from the cd driver to cat 6.2 with my X1900XTX, but I stopped crashing in BF2, so the tradeoff was worth it to me :) see profile for my current rig.

1900xtx

Who ever test this please post results...thanks

you run an ati card on a sli board? interesting.

yes I'm running an ATI video card in a NF4 SLI mobo also, go tired of the runaround trying to get some new nvidia cards. oh, I just noticed you guys with problems have DFI mobo's mine is an ASUS. That may have something to do with things. As for the BF2 CTD, I'll know for sure later today, I'll play 6 hours of todays 12 hour campaign battle, that should give it a thorough test, though I played about 2 or 3 hours last night with no trouble.

I did not find any slowdowns myself, but then after reading people having troubles I ran 3dmark and my score went down 400pts. For me the only problem was with 3dmark.

The funny thing is, if you goto frys and look at the newer ATI cards on the shelf there is a sign that says "must have crossfire motherboard", but the nvidia cards dont say "must have sli boards". An employee there told me "you cannot buy that card because it needs a crossfire motherboard and they are not out yet" I bought it, and its working fine on my DFI NF4 board.
So have you been listening to frys employee's? :)

what made you not want another gtx? (just curious)

Wasn't happy with the GTX's aniso filtering and I wanted a single card that can perform close to the GTX SLI setup.

I love 6.2. It has increased my Quake 4 performance noticably, I haven't run 3dMark since I updated, but as long as it improved my games I don't care what it did to my 3dMarks.

So do you think you have room for improvement? Is it posible those drivers can add a few more frames to what you already thought was an improvement?

Oh wait, you won't know until you actually try them won't you...
:p
