In the top system in my thread, I cannot get sound from my rear speakers. I have the Klipsch 4.1s. I have tried the Audigy LS, and the Onboard Realtek sound. I know the speakers are connected right, because the respective drivers have a utility to test each channel, and all 4 works fine. But, when I play an Mp3, DVD, or a game, nothing comes out of the rear channels. I have Quadrophonic picked from the Windows Control Panel, as I've always done. I am leaning towards something software wise, and will be rebuilding tonight to test that theory. Abit's forums haven't turned up anything. Anyone encounter this?

I hear the Audigy drivers override the windows control panel settings. (Haha... pun not indended).
MP3s are (almost) always 2 channels, so you have to find a way to set it to play the same on the rear two as the front two. Probably in Winamp.
If you don't have a 5.1 version of DVD player, it probably wont do 4.1.
As for the games, I don't know.
Just play around with ALL The settings, not just the WIndows Control Panel... sorry if I wasn't much help.

Probably that is the drivers. My soundcard is absolutely horrible about doing that exact same thing even when set to 5.1 mode. I have to manually set it to rear output (it can output normal stereo through any of the three analog outputs) and start the application playing whatever, then switch it to 5.1 to get the virtual surround working sometimes. Lately it hasn't been doing that to me as much, but this is part of the hassle that made me decide it's time to upgrade. Anyway, so check your drivers settings to see if they are causing this. If the audigy works like the sblive in this respect, you should have a creative program group in your start menu with a speaker selection program in it.

I understood that part, but I have the exact same issue. Certain things will work, others won't. My main problem is the virtual surround. You see, I can have it set to 6 speaker mode and play a DVD without trouble, but then when I try to play a MP3 I might hear nothing out of the rear channels. However, closing the MP3 player, setting it to the headphone on rear output option (stereo) starting the software and starting the playback, then going back and switching it back to 6 channel mode, I can get the rear channels (not to mention the sub and center) working again with that sort of thing. It seems the problem turned out to be at least partially related to how often I was switching to normal stereo mode though. I used to switch back and forth all the time before I got 5.1 headphones, but now I can leave it in 6 channel mode all the time and the problems occur a lot less often it seems. Anyway, a Creative Labs card and a Turtle Beach card are radically different, so your problem may not be even close to the same. It was merely a thought since it sounds so similar.
