My onboard ethernet on p55-ud3p isn't showing up in windows 7. I plugged it in to a wired connection, and at first it didn't work, so tried repairing the connection. Then, it worked. But then, I unplugged the ethernet cable to move it, and when I tried to connect again, the onboard LAN controller wasn't working, wasn't even in the device manager. I have tried changing the bios settings back to default, installing new drivers from gigabyte, and system restore, but none of those have worked. It's as though the network card simply isn't there, although it obviously is, being part of my motherboard. Help please!

Sounds like it died. If its turned on in the BIOS and now showing up at all in the Device Manager, its probably dead. Luckily, Gigabit Intel NIC's are $30 on Newegg.

Normally, I would think that too, but it was working perfectly fine before that happened? What could have caused it to fail? Also, it turns out a lot of people are having the same problem, and it might be software based. If you look up "Realtek network controller not found" you will find posts about it, I'm running through them right now to see if I can fix it, might install ubuntu to see if it works there.

I forgot to mention that when I installed the latest drivers for it from gigabyte, I got the message, "Realtek network controller not found. If Deep Sleep mode enabled Please Plug the Cable"

Agree with criccio. Sounds like a flaky NIC, assuming you've ruled out a bad Cat5 connection/line.

Just boot a Linux LiveCD. If it works there, it's a software/driver issue. If it doesn't, buy that Intel NIC or RMA it.
