Realtek ALC883 question

I've got a P5E-VM HDMI which has Realtek ALC883 for the onboard sound. I'm running a q9550, 4g corsair 1066, and an ATI 4870 1gb. Would using the onboard sound have any affect on the playback of 1080p movies? My problem isn't necessarily a sound problem, but I wasn't sure where to put it. 1080p movies I try to watch don't playback smoothly and the only thing I can think of is the onboard sound. Thanks for the help.
 
no, it should not influence performance, that 4870 should be handling your HD decode, which will carry the load, even if you're lame and don't do DXVA (this feature is not "unavailable" for 4870), the Q9550 can handle that with no issues

basically, stop pirating (if this is what you're doing, I don't care to get moralistic with you), and if you're using BD or HD-DVD, get the Corel software (over the InterVideo thing, which is outdated), enable DXVA and things should go smoothly
 
Use media player classic home cinema for all your video needs. This will pretty much play everything with a system like yours, no need for those crazy codec packs.
 
So you think it's a software thing? If that's the case, then would these other factors make much of a difference? I'm running the Windows 7 RC and the video file in question is a .mkv file being played through Quicktime. I've had the same issue to some extent with .mkv files in WMP but those are 720p and watchable.
 
It cant be the onboard sound fault. If you can play mp3 fine then I am pretty sure theres nothing wrong with it. Again, uninstall any codec packs you have and install media player classic home cinema. Some people will recommend getting CoreAVC but I just have media player classic home cinema alone by itself on Win7 and it works fine. Dont use quicktime or WMP.
 
Thank you for all of your help. I uninstalled my codecs (ffdshow and CCCP) and installed media player classic home cinema and it works like a dream. =)

cannot do AACS discs though

as far as "those crazy codec packs", theres nothing wrong with ffdshow (haven't heard of CCCP), works fine with proper content, and doesn't really add anything but TrueHD/MA, which VLC 1.0 can do (and its quite a bit lighter (and has less drama associated with its development)), anything else is supported across the board (like DTS, AC-3, etc)

as far as "if it can play mp3 fine it can't be onboard fault" (ow, the grammar hurt me), the physical hardware, perhaps not, however the drivers can still be at fault, in this case that wasn't true, but generally speaking, just because you can decode one codec, doesn't mean you can decode all codecs (in this case, that was true), just a tip for future troubleshooting posts
