The build is in the sig...

Anywho, Computer was working fine. Turned it off for the night and went to bed. Got up next morning and remembered that I needed to unplug the comp because of X reason that didn't pan out. So I plugged it back in tonight It boots and shows the Lanparty screen and then goes onto the next status screen
It does the whole 3/4 page PCI Device listing stuff

Then it pops out at the bottom

Verifying DMI Pool Data..... Update Success (which is normal)
Boot From CD:
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

So I try pressing enter Same thing.
Try putting in the windows CD since I have it by me in the collection.
Same Error

Restarted and checked BIOS. Yep same as usual Hard Disk Boot first. Nothin else boots.
Cracked the case and made sure all the wires were still in place. Yup sata ports and power ports are all good. So does anybody have any ideas?
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow...that is interesting...

My only thoughts are that somehow the hard disk failed during the night. But even if that is true, why couldn't you do anything with the XP disk?

Did the jumper settings or cabling somehow get screwed up?

Did you try clearing and resetting the Bios? Usually there is a jumper for this.

I hope you find out what happened!
 
I'd suspect something weird with the hard drive from your description.

Set the bios so boot from CD then HDD (not just HDD) and see if it'll boot from the CD-ROM.

If so go through the windows install until it asks where to install (goes through all the stuff about partitioning etc.) see if you get an error.

If so, (or even if not). Exit out, download the hard drive testing software from the manufacturer, (burn it to CD or put it on floppy, just follow the manufacturer's instructions) and run that. See if you get an error back. Good luck.
 
word to the wise...
Repair in the windows boot from CD wipes your windows install... Not really sure why they don't give you a are you sure you want to wipe? first but nope. click repair to see if it has any suggestions... BAM starts wiping files...

So anyway from the beginning...
I set it to boot from cd, stuck in the xp install disk it got to the part where it says press a key to boot from cd... I don't do anything and it loads XP just fine... So I back up all my files...

I then restart it and follow down the regular install path to see if it will give me errors. I get to the part where it says
Install (and then takes you to partion manager)
Repair (same thing but it wipes you old install)
and exit

I then proceed down the path I mentioned in the first paragraph. As soon as i see the deleting files text I let off a few choice expletives and look for a canel button. No cancel. So it wipes my old stuff and does whatever else it does and then restarts and goes to install windows screen where it proceeds to do stuff until it freezes... I gave it about an hour hoping something would change.

No change. So I restart.
Same bios problem or whatever... loads to windows screen. Says something like septup aborted restarting setup. then it goes black with just the mouse. Also let this sit for an hour.
I say screw it, I screwed up my install and just frag the partition and restart.
So now I have a new install of windows and all my Cd's for my programs are in another state... At least I know it isn't the hard drive since the install went fine...
Original problem still hasn't been fixed. I'm going to try setting the cmos jumper when I get some time tomorrow night.

Any other suggestions?

If I take the CD out before the motherboard boot screen I get the original prob. I can take the Cd out once I get to windows loading... Gonna have to see if I can use a knoppix cd and do the same thing...
 
Weird solution that I found
I have two sata hard drives. Drive 1 has OS. 2 is backup.
Unplug 1 boot. Get error
Plug one back in unplug 2. boot. Get error.
Plug 2 back in. Windows


I don't understand how this fixes the problem though. Does anybody know why this would fix this? Of course I also don't get why it happened in the first place...

I just wish I had tried this before the OS fiasco...
