Ok, so i have 3 hard drives. Let me label them for the purpose of this problem
#1. New 80gb hard drive by western digital, about 6 months old (empty)
#2. New 120gb hard drive by western digital, about 2 months old (has some of my backed up stuff on it)
#3. Old 80gb hard drive by western digital, about 4 years old (has ALL my backed up stuff on it)
Ok, 2 days ago i decided to format my hard drives and start clean. I had #3 and #2 in my computer together at the time. What i wanted to do was to take out #3 with all my saved stuff, store it someplace safe, and slap in #1 so that i could format that hard drive and format #2 and start clean.
I first connected just hard drive #1. Stick in the WinXP Pro cd. Good so far. Get to setup screen. Still good. Format, then copy files. Finally it tells me to restart, so i take out XP cd and i restart... Problem arises. It tells me that i have a "boot disk failure, insert Setup Cd and press enter"... So i said ok and put the xp cd back in. WTF? It takes me back to the original setup screen. I said ok, maybe this is an anomoly. Re-do installation, it does the same thing. I was gettin mad so i said ok leme try hard drive #2. (btw all my jumpers were correctly set)
Hard drive #2 is in... do setup and wtf? It does the same thing as above. I said ok lemme cruise hardforum and see whats the next best step. I end up resetting my bios.
Now im thinking "whew, hopefully this works".
Pop in #1 alone, and wtF? I get blue screens/random restarts/random freezing all throughout my first stage of format/copying files.
I said ok maybe its a bad drive (which it turned out to be). I pop in #2, i get random freezes and blue screens and random restarts too. WTF? Now i am stumped. Is it my motherboard gone bad? Is it my IDE cables? (btw i did try secondary IDE cables, they didnt do any help either). All jumpers are correct, and i have formatted each hard drive at least twice, and i have never had problems. I now even tried to boot into my original windows which was on #3, but it wont let me! Did i mess up all my hard drives somehow, or is my hardware to blame (i.e. ALL my hard drives and/or my motherboard?)
