Can the tacky IHV logos be safely removed from the reference ATI cooler on the HD 4890? On most any reference ATI cooler? Are they just stickers?

Use a blow dryer, that way if you need to put the sticker back on, you can (for warranty purposes).
 
I love the visual aide. That was pretty much the best part of my day today.

As stated above, a hair dryer should work fine.
 
Thanks for the replies. So it's just a sticker; I can only assume it's transparent red underneath?

And as for why, I like to have as little advertising in the system as possible, no matter where! Plus I don't like the graphics used on 99% of the cards.
 
Might be safer to cover it with some contact paper so you could easily remove it.The card is designed to get hot so somehow I doubt a hair drier would be an easy solution.
 
The sticker fell off of my X1950XT (or something like that, there were a lot of X's) from heat. You might be able to run the hell out of it for a little bit and then carefully peel it off. I'd try the hairdrier first though. Less likely to burn yourself that way...
 
or just run furmark at a nice oc for a few minutes to get it nice and toasty, quick shutdown, flip, and peel away! =)

I generally don't give a s**t about the stickers on my videocard...or any other component in the system for that matter, but this is rediculous. " Now I've heard it all "... Are these guys serious? Voiding a warranty for removing a sticker on a card you paid YOUR money for? Is that a joke? Wow!!! a****ingmazing. What next?

You have to realize most companies when they rma something (if it's actually faulty; stuff is tested) they send it back to some factory or what have you. That factory is not gonna accept some card that looks like shit. Use common sense man.
 
Lol i tried to just peel the sticker off of a 4850.... it left a messy sticky residue... I would suggest a blowdryer and patience.... maybe some goo off when your done ;)

Are you serious...Since when does removing the sticker influence in any way the operation of the electronics that IS the videocard. I suggest YOU use common sense.

just get some nail polish remover, it can easily and quickly clean that up.
