Once at a gencon 2-4 years ago (I can't remember), I saw a setup for 5.1 that had the rear two speakers on semicircular (so they'd be out of the way of your arms for gaming) arms attached to the computer's surface to each side of the user. These looked like professionally built quality, not some guy's garage job, and they were installed on more than one computer. The walls in my place of living are plaster and don't work for hanging speaker mounts, and the floorplan is too small for floor stands (they'd get knocked over all the time), so these desk-mounted arm things seemed awesomely ideal, but I never thought to ask for information about them, thinking I'd just google it. I've looked for them on the net on and off in the years since, and never had any luck. Has anyone ever heard of or seen something like this? I'd gladly buy a pair, probably a pair of pair once I get 5.1 for my other computer. Thanks in advance.

the ones i saw were more of a gunmetal grey color and much more solid (less like you could sneeze them apart). This is the right idea though. Thanks for that much. Technically, one could make such a thing, but i dont have a lot of power tools and i'd be happy to pay a reasonable amount rather than go through the effort of having failed tries at constructing them and having to tweak constantly to get them right.
 
Oh. Well, I was gonna have to break the bad news to you and tell you that the item I posted is no longer made and is very very hard to find. LOL. :p Not like it matters now anyways.

From your description of the item you saw, I would like to see what it is. If you ever find what you're looking for, please post back. I too lack the power tools and I just don't have time to make myself some speaker mounts and I rather just buy them.
 
make telescoping sealing mounted speaker stands. thats what i did, had them powder coated black to look all sexy and match the speakers, ran speaker wires up through the walls to the sealing (had to go in the insulation infested attic to run wires through(sucked :( )) but they work great plus since the bases use round holow tubing which telescopes down to make less clutter in the room, so i dont stumble into the room and trip over a floor stand or from them hanging all the time so i dont wack my head on them. i'll post pics if i can find my digital camera.
 
I live in an apartment building, I can't do anything in the ceiling because someone else livse above me :-\. Still, a good suggestion, and I'd like to see the pics in any case.
 
you can always take some tape and magicly tape the wires to the sealing :D viva ghetto rig :D
 
the idea behind my post is to vehemently oppose the ghetto rig :) I can always just duct tape my speakers to the wall or something insane, i just wanted the pretty / sleek arms that would put them at the exact right position for gaming and music enjoyment and look nice while doing so. Still, thanks to all for continued contributions.
 
Klipsch makes a pair of $90 stands for their ProMedia systems, has anybody gotten these? are they worth it?

I am thinking about getting a pair for my dorm room this year but im not sure if they'll fit properly
 
No. Read the post again :) Can't use wall mounts, walls are too old and crumbly and no room for them.
