Really confused on my Memory

Guys,

I am Ocing my CPu to 2.5ghz. I set the FSB to 250. Also set the LTD to 4
Then I changed the memory to 333, instead of 400

Now, I thought that PC3200 was running at 400.

But when I look at CPUID, it states that my memory is running at 200 mhz, which I think is PC3200 speeds.

But when my machine first boots up, it states 333.

Where is my confusion?
 
DDR....Double Data Rate.

So 200Mhz memory speed is effectively 400MHz ;)

not the issue. his bios is reporting DDR 333, and CPUID is reporting DDR 400.

yes, DDR 400, 200 MHz memory bus and PC3200 are all the same speed.
DDR 333, 166 MHz memory bus and PC 2700 are all the same speed.

i know that good old memtest86 gets confused by different combinations of memory and FSB speeds, perhaps CPUID has the same problem with certain setups.

i would think that CPUID is mis-reporting your FSB as your memory speed.

If its anything like my board, then the POST screen just shows whatever is picked in the BIOS, not the real memory speed, but CPU-Z displays the real memory speed.

Remember, hes using the DDR333 setting with a 250 bus,.

Right, so my Bios is displaying DDR333, but CPUID is stating that it is DDR400. So which should I believe?
 
On my Neo2 Plat it says on bootup that my settings are DDR 333 when I run a divider...but it also states that the effective clock is whatever I'm running, in your case I would see something like this on bootup

DDR 333 2-3-2-5 Effective Data Rate: 200 mhz

I am guessing that is what is happening. Your BIOS is just stating that it is running a divider and that CPU Z is correct.
 
I'm a little confused because the first thing you stated was that you set your FSB to 250. That's 500 mhz. the next thing you stated is that you set your memory to 333 which effectively undoes the previous step you just mentioned.

So now you have 1) You thinking RAM is 250 2) Bios thinking is 166 and 3) CPUID thinking Ram is at 200

That's an impressive problem. I think that there is a nut loose between the steering wheel and seat

In all seriousness, sounds like you might want to get some help with bios options from others that have the same board you do.

Man, I wish I had room in my sig for that one. :D And yeah, I skipped past the problem or read it wrong....I'm used used to ppl asking why DDR 400 is 200MHz in the BIOS/CPU-Z, etc.
 
no no no. you set it in the BIOS to DDR333, which sets a divider. 4:5 specfically. at 200mhz, (stock) your ram will run at 333. at 250mhz, your ram will run at 200mhz (200/4=250/5)

for example. i have my ram divider at DDR266 (2:3). its at 300HTT right now, and my ram is running at 200mhz. (400effective). on my neo2, it posts as DDR266 @200mhz (400 effective). its simply stating the divider that you have running.

just out of curiosity though, what's the cpu multi? you might wanna give the link in my sig about a64's memory dividers a look ;)

Thanks, I didn't realize that was how you do it on some boards. On my board you specify the ratio you want. 6:7 1:1 etc...
 
that board, like most others will say ddr333, but its running only at that divider. your ram is at ddr400, cuase (500 * 5)/6 is 400. so your ram is running a 333 divider, and its dividing 500 by 5/6. so your bios is telling you the divider you have, and cpu-z is telling you the frequency your ram is running.
