Really Bizarre Networking Problem In WoW

I'm having a weird problem in World of Warcraft, but I'm convinced that it's hardware related.

Game runs fine for the most part. When I go to turn in a quest, my internet connection freezes up. I get disconnected from WoW. When I load up internet explorer and try to access Yahoo.com, nothing happens. Only thing that fixes it is a manual restart of my DSL modem.

That said, I don't htink the problem lies with the DSL modem itself because I've had that for over a year and it worked fine with my old computer. My new computer (which I got about a week ago) is an Athlon 3200 with NForce mobo.

Someone at WoW forums suggested to disable the checksum offload option for the Nforce network adapter. What exactly does this do? Is it a safe option, and will it otherwise hurt networking performance?

Does it work? It should be safe, and any performance is better then no performance.
