Really bad Halflife 2 Problem

My game starting rendering like this a few weeks ago. I uninstalled halflife 2 and then realized I completely lost the install cd. Please don't ask me how. The doctor says im ADHD.

I got kind of lonely one day for halflife 2 and decided if I couldn't have the whole game then the demo would do for a little while. I downloaded the demo and installed and it started doing the EXACT same thing as before. I'm really spooked out about it.

Have you installed the latest drivers and reinstalled dx9?

holy video artifacting!! New drivers may be in order, but most likely the card is overheating, or has a slightly damaged core.

BTW even if you buy the cd version of HL2, once you register it on steam you can install it over steam and not off the cd's

My old R9700P did the same about two years ago in games. Nothing cured it tehnically that i could do but an RMA did finally.

Yeah, that's probably a good place to start

Also, I see it says 9800XT...you said 9800 Pro...did you flash it with an xt bios? If so, I hope you added ramsinks. Pro's flashed to XT's tend to have their memory burn out since the XT ran different ram at higher voltage.

To the best of my knowledge I haven't flashed it with an xt bios. I have a much bigger xt heatsink that I planned to use to overclock the card later but then it started acting up on me. My processor is also running hot. I did a f@h thing that a friend helped me with and it showed that at some point my 2500 barton runs at 150 F.

My plan on action now is to buy some arctic silver 5, and remount the heatsink for my video card. I might also remount the heatsink for my processor as well.

I'm still open to any software things that I could try.

once you install half life 2 and register a steam account you dont ever need to look at cd key again

just go to www.steampowered.com and download steam client and logon to your account
everything will be blacked out but just right click on what you want installed and it will download them

btw 150 F is getting pretty darn hot my barton 3000 tops out at around 120 to 125 load ..what heatsink do you have,,, and maybe it needs dusting out
