first when i started my computer it in dos was saying a horrible somehting was gonna happen to my hd so i should remove it. so i formatted, that worked for a while, then died. so i switched to the 80 gig i had as a slave and set the other as a slave. now the computer reboots whenver it feels like it and the 60 giger just doesnt show up in dos sometimes. so i think the problem is either with my mobo or power supply. any ideas?

This is my power supply: http://directron.com/tt520ss.html

which is supposedly decent...and my mobo is shit (so i was hoping that was the problem and i get a reason to upgrade it)

bump...lemme get an answer so i can fix this...btw it only has restarted while gaming...if that helps

sounds like your first drive died and if i understand correctly you used it as a slave instead?? If thats the case, you should remove the bad drive and not use it. I have a drive that died in another machine and i accidentally used it last night (forgot to toss in the trash) and it caused my machine to reboot till i remembered it was the bad drive from another machine.

here is your reason to upgrade.....................

"because you feel like it"

I use that excuse all the time, wife hates it... but oh well.. she'll get over it.

took out the hd and it was working fine playing games until a map change where stuff froze

Well, it could be a faulty PS

OR

it could be your memory (either your system mem or video mem)

You can test your system mem with memtest86

I don't know of any utlilities that will test video mem off the top of my head, but someone in here might.

OR

It could be a crap MB

The only way to test the MB and PS is to swap them out with some known good, quality parts.

Good luck

maybe i should just upgrade the mobo for the hell of it...i kinda doubt it's the ps cause a friend has the same one running more things and he's had it 6 + mo. The mobo on the other hand i got for under 80 bucks 2 years ago

i guess i should get one of my friends to come over and swap out parts

Don't rule out the PS just because someone you know hasn't had any problems with the one they own. The only way to be sure is to test it or swap it out.

Didya ever think it could be your overclock? I can cause stability issues ya know.

Put stuff back to stock and see if the problems re-occure then start swapping parts.

Side note - I'd get that flakey drive out of there. Only bad things can come from it.

yea i put it at stock...its not random restarts though just a slight freeze that i can sometimes get out of...i think i'll run some benchmarks to see if i can recreate it

whenever im playin the game and it bugs out, the screen goes to weirds out then goes back to my desktop and says VPU recover had to kick in...could it be the vid card? its a built by ati 9700 pro

EDIT: also sometimes it just goes black and repeats whatever sound is being played in the game with a high pitched whining sound in the backround/./

thinking about the hd probs, now the video card probs and now this pulsating i hear from the fans in my psu and the inability for me to change the speed on the back (used to be able to now the fan turns off if i touch it) im going to conclude that my psu is fucked.
