Is the 3770k worth the extra 100? price isnt the main issue, as is availability. At microcenter getting the 3570k + gigabyte ud5 will save over $150, while the 3770k isnt even available, let alone the extra $50 discount on the mobo

Depends. What will you be doing with the machine? If youre primarily gaming get the the 3570k.

You mean your MC doesn't have them in stock, mine did have ten in stock yesterday.
Hard to say about realword diferences besides the obvious. If on a budget, the 3750k looks pretty good, if not already running a SB. I imagine OC mileage will vary on these depending on board choice, cooling and such.

I plan to explore a little of that today. I debated on the choice of 3750k for a bit myself, but the 3770k won out due to personal preferences.

I do know, for me, this is going to require a different pump and radiator.

Unless something has changed, look up any thread debating 2500k vs 2600k. Comes down to whether the programs you use will utilize HT (and to a reasonable degree) - if yes, the extra 100 is worth it, if no, it's not.

I had this same debate. I went with the 3770K b/c I will be doing a lot of 3D modeling. It seems like, unless you're doing hardcore photo editing, video editing, or 3D modeling, the 3570K is completely fine.

I would get i7 3770. Extra cache and ht will help. Your CPU usage will be lower with HT.

As long as your programs can make significant use of HyperThreading, then it's extra money well spent. Otherwise, apply the difference in price to something else, like a better GPU, larger SSD, etc.

I went with 3570k, it seems it is a little better overclocker and I'm not planning on doing anything with HT related.

I went with a 3570K because I couldn't justify the extra money for the hyperthreading. I simply wouldn't notice a difference between the two for my uses.

If you have the money just go with 3770k. So 2 months down the line, you won't have that nagging feeling of "boy i should have gotten 3770k "

I own a 2500K and since I've brought it I have not regreat, nothing to envy to the 2600k, so I think the $100 gap is up to you if you use HT,

Well I got the 3770K but my reasoning was different then everyone elses here at least. I got mine on release day and the way I looked at it I budgeted for the 3570K and Z77 Board. Well MC had Release day and the 3770K prices and Board were within my budget. While I do not really do anything that requires HT it is nice to know it is there if I need it. Plus who knows where games will go in a year or 2. Not that the demand for HT will make a huge difference but it may be something that gets used in the future. And if Not then not a big deal as it was still in my budget.

I think I did well with mine. 4.6 @ 1.29V 60-65 under IBT Load and 50-55 under gaming which is what I primarily plan to do with it. Also couldn't really tell on release which would be the best OCer + the thought was the 3770K would be a better binned chip. Guess time will tell.

I'm thinking of swapping in my all copper thermaltake heat sink on my 3570. I, also got this setup in a3770k and I top out at 4.6 ghz. You think the 3570k will be good for a bit higher than that?

I use one of those CPU usage gadgets and almost everything I run will use most of the threads, playing games uses all 8 threads, encoding apps use and peg all 8.
Passmark shows the 3770k being around 40% faster than the 3570k, 7700 vs 10,000

very few things use more than 4 threads at a time. If you are looking at the task manager, it is deceptive since windows will switch tasks extremely fast to different cores.

Wouldn't the CPU usage be nearly identical, unless you mean percentage of total CPUs used?

The 2600k does also have 33% more cache that some apps also take advantage of.

Same here plus no envy for the 3570k or 3770k from the 2500k. Unless the applications that stress your CPU the most are not games, you wont see much difference in anything.

i went with the 3570k b/c i wanted a gaming/programming machine, with a slew of other things. i used that extra CPU cash i saved from the 3770 and put it towards my gtx 670. so,

it depends on what u want out of it, and how flexible your budget it
