real time shadows in stalker...

i was watching these new trailers of stalker (which you can grab here BTW) and after the tech-demo with those nice real-time shadows i was wondering how these are rendered. as far as i know real-time raytracing is way off, so how do game-engines render such scenes so fast?

Doesn't require any special hardware either, all you need is OpenGL and there's a software opengl driver included in recent versions of windows. :)
