Hey all, I'm in need of software, preferably free, that can do realtime MP3 encoding. Just to give you an idea what its for, at my church we want to throw away our tape deck, finally, and record straight to mp3. But it would be easier for the less computer literate on the sound crew if it was simple and not a two step process, wav>mp3.
Oh, and windows software is prefered, but linux is an option.

I would say screw the whole MP3 thing and stick to wave files.
Everytime you want to work with a mp3 you end up reencoding them so I would say skip that step and keep the quality high.
Either way check out Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
or you could also use the use the wave editor that comes with Nero.
If you are dead set on the MP3 idea check out Audiograbber
http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/
It is the only software that I know of that does realtime MP3 encoding.

I understand the part about unlimited harddrive space...... that is why they make CDR drives. :D
