Before you guys ask, no I do not have E0 stepping. With that out of the way I will give you guys the specs of my system.

Intel e8400, with xigmatek rifle cooler
4 gigs of DDR 2 800 mhz G.Skill RAM (PC2-6400)
ASUS Maximus II Formula Motherboard

Start by bumping the front side bus to 400MHz, disable spread spectrum and do some stability testing after that.

If all is well, proceed by reading this thread.

Is there anything easier than that to follow? It also appears that the E8400 isn't on that list (unless I missed it)....

That guide IS what you want to follow. To be honest, if you can't follow it, you probably shouldn't be OCing.

I just looked at it and got overwhelmed. It's a bit intimidating when you first look at it.

Well I did it and I am now successfully running my E8400 at 3.6 ghz thank you guys.

It's quite simple, no problem.

If you wish to educate yourself further, stick around the forums and read.
Get some older CompTIA A+ Certification books.
If you have $50, a really good book is Upgrading and Repairing PCs by Scott Mueller. Get the latest edition if you want to know all in the ins and outs of modern computer technology.
There are diagrams and descriptions of every part. Hard drives to CD-ROMs themselves. The obscure to the obvious. I have an older 13th edition and it served me well, need to get the latest edition myself.

Yeah it really is quite simple now that I know how to do it. In the future I hope to be able to push 4 ghz assuming I don't get i7 sometime soon.
