hello!

I have major problem in reading pdf

thankfully my eyesight is ok, but any kind of screen I have viewed pdf files in, it is inconvenient in many ways

for example this pdf:

it needs me to magnify it in order to read it and after that I have to scroll numerous times in order to read it

is there a solution for this?

maybe a specific monitor for that kind of job?

What size screen are you using? Maybe rotate it? Looks great on a 27" Shimian 2560x1440 in portrait...
 
oh, rotate it, yeah it maybe would do the trick, but it is inconvenient to rotate again and again...

not sure what the problem is.
what size monitor do you have? if it's a smaller one (22-24in or less), i guess you might have issues.

i dl'ed the pdf you linked to and had no problem tho i'm using a 30in screen.
as Nosliw mentioned, rotating the screen to portrait might help tho it probably sucks having to do that on your monitors stock stand. you could pick up a LCD monitor arm (clamp or bolt-thru), this would make screen rotations trivial. i have an old kensington arm attached to my 30in screen. it makes screen adjustments (swivel, rake, height, rotate) a piece of piss.

perhaps its your pdf reader. i don't use adobe, instead i have 'nitro pdf' installed. resizing the document is automatic when changing the window size and the arrow keys make scrolling very smooth.

is it resolution problem? maybe a better technology can display pdfs properly, without having to put it in portrait display?

or maybe there is any monitor that its vertical dimension is large enough that would make it work ?

not to mention that text is displayed so dull.... is there also any optimization for this? (either hardware or software)

ofcourse an "easy" solution would be the monitor arm, or even buy a monitor for pdf viewing only, but that would be inconvenient too

now, if i say i want to read pdf perfectly clearly and without having to scroll on the go? in a portable screen/device? that would be too difficult, right?
 
I don't get the big deal with scrolling, you have to scroll web pages, like on this forum to read replies.

But what I get is you want to view the whole page at once, and have it legible.

Then there are two solutions:
Turn your monitor into portrait mode, or get a monitor with greater vertical pixel count.

My monitor is 24" 1920x1200. If I hit F11 to put the PDF app into full screen mode and get rid of the interface elements I can read it a full page at a time, but it is a bit tiring as the fonts are small and crappy do to the low pixel count. I would rather just zoom it and using my keyboard or mouse scroll wheel. I don't find scrolling down to read more of a page an arduous task.

A 30" 2560x1600 screen would be ideal. You could then read two full pages side by side with ease, like a book.

in the pdf above, can you tell me please which vertical dimension does the screen has to have, in order to fully display it at 125% magnification, without any scrolling needed
 
125% needs scrolling on my 1200 pixel screen. But not a lot.

So 1440 would likely do it. So a 2560x1440 screen would likely also work. But if this is such a big issue, I would go for the 30", it has a more vertical pixels and they are slightly bigger, because the 1440 screens are not much taller physically than my 1200 pixel screen. You may find soon after getting the 1440 screen that you get a PDF with a slightly smaller font and you are back in the same situation.

I think 30" 2560x1600 is the only solution if you insist on full page PDF viewing without scrolling.
 
damn, i am thinking that eyes will have to make long movements from one edge of the screen to the other (in regular desktop usage) and i imagine that eye straing will be considerable :/

Maybe you should just get a laser printer, and print it out.
 
Just buy a cheap/refurbished 20" 1600x1200 monitor and put it in portrait mode. You can see one full page at a time @ 125%. With a 2560x1440 monitor, you can see two pages at a time, but the text is considerably smaller due to the finer pixel pitch.

Agreed. That is a good solution. Just leave it as a cheap second screen just for reading PDFs if necessary.

Though make sure it isn't a TN screen, they really suck in portrait mode.
 
and when I want to open a web browser to check something at the same time?

is there a software that can do this?

ie, open pdf only in second monitor and all the others in the main monitor, while having only one mouse/keyboard
 
Well you just open the PDF then drag it over on to your second screen. Everything else will keep opening on your main screen.

But let me guess, dragging a PDF on to a second screen is too much work. :)
