From Forbes AMD interview

“They’re coming in Q4. I can’t reveal a pricepoint but we’re looking at more traditional enthusiast GPU pricepoints. We’re not targeting a $999 single GPU solution like our competition because we believe not a lot of people have that $999. We normally address what we call the ultra-enthusiast segment with a dual-GPU offering like the 7990. So this next-generation line is targeting more of the enthusiast market versus the ultra-enthusiast one.

“It’s also extremely efficient. [Nvidia's Kepler] GK110 is nearly 30% bigger from a die size point of view. We believe we have the best performance for the die size for the enthusiast GPU.

“Another thing I can tell you is about the process node: this GPU is in 28nm. Some have speculated that it was 20nm and it’s not for a specific reason: At 28nm for an enthusiast GPU, we can achieve higher clock speeds and higher absolute performance.”

I'm not sure what to make of this, but it seems to me that next gen Radeon might not beat Titan.

I'm pretty sure it means it will not beat Titan, however AMDs aim is not a $1000 niche market as you can also read from that article.

I know, but many were expecting a Titan Killer. Seems like its not gonna happen.

A Titan killer on the same process (28nm) and a smaller die size? Yea, not going to happen. Maybe it'll give the GTX 780 a run for its money, which is needed. $650 for the new high end is just ridiculous.

Well, technically, nvidia could strip all the compute features from Titan and make a smaller die.

I wish. I don't like the artificial crippling they've done. But they know what's best for their profit.

It's cheaper to bin them from a complete GK110. Tesla -> Titan -> 780. Works better for Nvidia.

Regardless, the new Radeons will probably compete with the GTX 780 rather than the Titan.

Yeah they really have no reason to compete with the titan as of now. The only reason NVIDIA even made the titan is because they had something similar already there. But you can always be assured that the 8990 will beat it, but so would the 790. For me I'm happy when it is just competative, and am usually a little more happy when AMD outperforms simply because they generally cost less which drives down prices on both sides.

Wow...I thought Titan was a dual gpu card...not sure why! :p

Yeah, I just don't see the profit in selling enough $1,000 cards to make it worthwhile. I think they just need to beat the 780's.

I think NVidia has done pretty well in selling Titan.
People forget that it also has 6GB of RAM.

It sounds like from that interview above that AMD is pointing at the GTX 780 and not the Titan as a lot of AMD fans has hoped.

I just hope whatever it is will be good competition and keep the prices realistic.:D

Well if they can beat the GTX 780 or match it at a lower price point, that would be awesome for consumers. How about a platinum game bundle with the new cards... heh?

Even if the card just ties the 780, but comes in @ $450-500 for reference/custom models, it is going to be a huge win for both AMD and US! Nvidia will need to drop the 780 down to at least $550 (since the fanboys that bleed green will still happily overpay a bit)..

I personally think we are going to see it come in ahead of the reference and most of the mildy o/c'd 780 parts..GCN is a great architecture, and as we have seen from the 7950/70s, has TONS of headroom from their launch clock speeds..
