Nothing wrong with it. If you can afford more, you should shoot a little higher. Hitachi and Sony both make excellent 46"-57" rear-projection CRTs for marginally more. If you don't have HD service or aren't planning on it, these will just make the flaws of standard def compression more visible.
Only ultra-high end professional use CRTs natively display both 720p and 1080i... however, and HDTV made in the past 5 years or so (with the exception of some odd Zenith/LG tubes) will convert a 720p signal to 1080i seamlessly. It is impossible in a double blind test for someone to tell 720p being converted to 1080i vs. a native signal of either on a CRT RPTV, they all look crystal clear.
As for that RCA set... RCA HDTVs have come a long way. When they introduced their Scenium line years back they really made a move to start improving the quality of their sets. HD or a strong DVD signal will look incredible on that as it would on any other set in the price range. I do have to echo the above suggestion though, Hitachi makes the best HDTV CRT RPTVs on the market bar none, well, maybe excepting ultra high end Mitsu or Pioneer models, but even then it can be a toss-up. Hitachi and Sony also have the best upconversion for standard-def analog signals, and Hitachi sets tend to be built like tanks (though they weigh about as much... I hired professional movers to move my 57" Hitachi SWX20B when I changed apartments, I wasn't going to give myself a hernia trying to lift that 300+ lbs beast again).
