I was at Best Buy, living in Reno seriously limits my choices in shopping for electronics. I miss the Bay Area and Fry's.

I saw a razer mouse and keyboard that I kinda liked and wanted to get some feedback, what do people think of the Razer Mamba or Naga Epic and the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate or maybe the Marauder.

I am more of a MMO, Star Craft, Diablo, Oblivion, RPG, Strategy player then a twitchy FPS kinda person. Not that I havnt played the dooms, Half-Life, Halo, etc.

My big game right now is City of Heroes, being able to program keys on the mose and mayhaps macros for the keyboard might be nifty. Special multimedia keys do nothing for me, I have a home theater type stereo attached to my system and just use the remote control on it for volume.

Back light keys do have my attention a little, would be nice, I could turn off the overhead fluorescents more.

I just looked up the APM feature, I see it is designed for Star Craft, is it programmable? Can ti be used for say, Hit points and Endurance on COH, or other key stats in various games? Or is it just a Star Craft trick?

Blackwidow is a great keyboard.

Naga Epic is a good mouse if you can train your thumb to use the side keys.

I don't think you can change the APM feature to do other things on the Razer Marauder.

I myself use a Mamba and Blackwidow Ultimate and love them both. I play a lot of SC2, some DOTA style games, some fps, they are great for it all.

Nice feedback. I'll need to start budgeting.

If I can train mu thumb it would be nice.

All I can say is do a LOT of research on their keyboards. If there is any hint at all that their keyboards after the lycosa have the same problems the lycosa did (keys thinking they were pressed when they weren't, other keys not responding, all requiring you to unplug and replug the keyboard) then avoid it.

Their mice are great from all the ones I owned, but their quality control, at least during the Lycosa days and the year following were terrible for keyboards. I went through three replacements, all had the same issue to varrying degrees.

Never been a tremendous fan of Razer's keyboards. The Naga, on the other hand, is one of the most comfortable mice I've ever used. I've got a Saitek Cyborg and it's sort of alright. Lot of standard functionality but it takes some getting used to.

The Blackwidow is great from what I've read, but I do agree that a lot of their early products have their fair share of problems. My Copperhead from...oh, I want to say 2005 or so would sometimes not be recognized upon bootup. This happens randomly (but not often, thankfully) and has happened on multiple computers/motherboards over the past several years so I know it is something with the mouse and not my specific computer. It's not a big deal, but considering that this mouse was around $70 when I first got it, it makes me feel a bit slighted.

Fun little fact: The Black Widow is being produced for Razer by iOne.

Here are a couple of reviews.

Haha, I knew Razer wasn't able to produce quality all on it's own. Though, even by iOne's standards, the Black Widow is probably pretty decent. iOne just recently discontinued it's XArmor keyboards due to their shitty quality and numerous returns.

Don't get any Razer keyboard except for the Blackwidow. Trust me.

True, the only *quality* Razer product is the Black Widow, really.

I've heard nothing but bad things about Razer's quality control, including their mice... wheels and buttons becoming squeeky and stiff over time and such like things. Even the Blackwidow you hear problems of quality control with the spacebar hitting the right alt on some peoples' Blackwidows. I bought the Blackwidow despite the quality control complaints because its the cheapest Cherry Blue keyboard I could find that was easily available in retail stores in Australia.
