Does anyone have an SB-Z/Zx/ZxR that can comment how the razer surround compares to sbx?

I have tried the razer surround and it works quite effectively. I'm fond of the calibration which I haven't seen done with any other offering.

It still has some pretty severe software/driver issues and suboptimal speaker setup.

When it works its fine though...
It sounds better than both CMSS3D-HP and Dolby Headphone.
And while I'm not sure how the 3d positioning compares to CMSS3D-HP it sure is much better than Dolby Headphone.

To sum it up...
Good enough for me to never buy anything from Creative ever again.

Are you referring to gaming, or non-gaming (multimedia/audio/video) use?

The one thing I use SBX Pro Studio for is non-gaming (particularly audio) use - for video, I use software that supports either DTS or DD (because my audio solution supports both) for gaming, I follow the settings included with the game's documentation that match my setup.

SBX is included with the hardware (not merely the Z; it's standard fare with the entire SoundCore DSP-driven series of audio hardware, such as Recon3D, TitaniumHD, etc., in both PCIe and USB iterations) - in that aspect, it is identical in "value" to Razer Surround (which is normally $14.99USD/UK pounds/pence - this is according to RazerZone itself). However, I would think that RS is aimed more toward gaming than SBX is (which makes a great deal of sense) - where folks start running into difficulties (in terms of any software) is using something outside of it's "niche".

The Z series has the best gaming sound I have heard from a soundcard to date. I do not use SBX at all. Just straight stereo to my headphones. If you have a good pair of headphones, the need for calibration software and other effects is much less.

That doesn't make sense. Any quality sound card should have identical stereo output.
