Razer Orochi custom lighting?

Hi guys.

Thought I would post something interesting here and see if anyone is interested in following it up.

I was opening my orochi the other day to solder in a USB battering charging module for when the USB cable is plugged in and when im using rechargable batteries. Im also intending to change the lights in the mouse.

One thing that is curious though is the solder points and connectors to the lights.

The main center light on the orochi has a 4 point solder connector on it - usually used with RGB led's. I thought "maybe its just for extra mounting, probably a coincidence".

Then I had a look at the scroll wheel lighting. This actually has a connector on the mouse mainboard that is also 4pin, however the wheel only uses 2 of them (the center 2).

So, this leads me to believe that razer originally intended to have a couple of mice (orochi, and im also guessing mamba) to have changeable lighting, but decided against it for cost reasons (cheap bstards).

Could someone more electronically skilled have a look and see if the proper IC's are in this mouse to facilitate light change if the right LED's are connected?

I've been wanting to mod my Orochi mouse for some time now, but haven't found the courage nor the time to dismantle it yet.
I'll start by simply changing the led in the scroll wheel, I just want to put a red led on it. Have you tried this?
You could maybe give me a hint if there's anything I should be specially carefull with.
I'll post some photos when I'm done.

i can pretty much tell you this much, if the mouses software dosent support light color change, then the circuitry isnt going to be there, simply "adding the led's" as it where, will not make the software suddenly see that it can be changed. you would need the right chipset at the very least... and well thats a new mouse.

drigo, there are only 2 thigs you need to know with LEDs. 1 is the voltage of the LED in use. easy way to get that is with the mouse torn down put a volt meter to the leads of the led, buy the new led with the same voltage... if the voltage of the new led is to high, the mouse wont be able to drive it, you may ruin the mouse, if its voltage is to low, you risk over volting the LED... short term may only be as dramatic as shortened life of the LED. but may be as bad as an explosion ( trying to drive a 1.2v IR LED off a 9v battery hurts like hell when they blow up in your hand, been there), but most likely not... and 2, you need to know the LEDs polraity, you install it backwards, you get nothing. but if you install it the right way, it will work the first time.

it really is easy, but if you have not soldered before, i recommend parcticing elsewhere first. you drip solder in the wrong place and you can kiss the mouse goodb bye.
