Hi, I'm in the market for a fun mouse to go with my new system (see sig).

Should I wait for the Razer Copperhead to come out? Should I jump on the Diamondback Plasma that's at Amazon for $40? Should I defect over to Logitech from my current MS mice, and get a 518? Should I wait on the G5?

I'm looking for a wired mouse, with at least two main buttons, and a wheel. Everything after that is bonus. I'll gladly spend $40 if it looks cool in the least, but I also value function over form, as I am an avid BF2 player with my new machine, and play CS:S and Q3 regularly as well.

Thoughts please as to what a [H]ard mouse would be?

Okay, so Amazon's whole cookies to keep you logged in, and one-click ordering system are a bit hazardous. I now own a Diamondback Plasma. Wish me luck. :p

Amazon's deal is pretty awesome. For $40 you get the Diamondback Plasma LE and for only $25 more, you get the razer mousemat with wristpad. That's a darn good deal. If I would like the shape of the razer, i would've ordered the same.

Oh well, this way, i ordered MX518 with Razer mat and Eclipse keyboard. Overall a good deal as well.

DEFECT! Trust me!!! I've never been happier with a mouse than when I defected from my old MS mouse to this thing. It's just great. Probably 518 is more than is needed, but, it's still in the right lines. I think I looked at a real one in best buy recently, and unlike the new mx-1000 they didn't change the shape of it. (That MX-1000 is too thin or something. My dad got one and I tried it and it just doesn't work nearly as well for me.)

I am a gamer, and the type who prefers the accurate weapons that shoot straight rather than the shotgun style crap where you just point in the vague direction and it will probably work. I'm not going to say I'm the greatest out there, but, well, at least the one and only lanparty I've ever been to I won in UT2K using the shock rifle thanks to this mouse. I'll be honest, the others just had plain ordinary cheap mice, so I kind of had an automatic advantage. d-: Still, the point is, I'm not so terribly innacurate, and I've seen a definite improvement with this thing. Not just improvements of DPI or that sort of thing, it's more complicated. Things such as the shape and weight of it are just right for gaming for me, making it possible for me to be more accurate. A ten million dpi is useless if you can't control it after all.

EDIT: Oops, somehow I misunderstood what you said in the second post. Looks like you don't get to choose. Well, that's pretty crappy I must say. Suddenly I'm glad they patented the oneclick crap and no one else can ever use it (well, except by paying a license, but, that'd be stupid...) d-:

Bah, I looked over the stuff about the diamondback. All it has is a high DPI. The fact is, you would have been a lot happier with the MX518 as it's not just a dpi high enough for the heaviest of gamers, but, a design specifically intended to make a heavy diablo 2 session not leave you with carpel tunnel. (I use diablo 2 specifically for a reason. Never had my hand hurt than when I first played diablo 2 on my previous intellimouse. Later I had played it for a bit again with my current MX510 and my hands weren't sore at all.)

Just looked at the Diamondback deal on Amazon again. Couldn't resist the price tag (darn, it IS a good deal) and ordered one for my son. Will be a big step up from his Intellimouse 1.0

It processed with their normal 3-5 day shipping. I'm, in CT, it shipped from Jersey, it'll be here tonight at 5pm. (Well, 6:30, but, our UPS guy covers a huge area).

Damn.

Well, given that it was a semi-accidental purchase, I gotta say this keeps getting better. :) I mean, I'll have it to frag in BF2 tonight.

I should have said above that I've never really been a fan of the modern Logitech design, it rolls my wrist in a kind of nasty way, and the large plastic spacer between the primary buttons makes my fingers ache a bit. Odd, no?

Anyway, think I should go post about this deal down in the [H]ot Deals forum? This counts as warm anyway.

Thanks for the advice, I'll reply to this thread with my thoughts on the mouse tonight. :D

I am going to wait for the new logitech mouse....

The copperhead, according to Gamespot, is suppossed to be released Monday, the 22nd. Just figured I throw that in.

I have a diamondback+exactmat right now; it's the most incredible mouse+pad i've ever used. i'll probably give the copperhead a few months before i pick it up. I'm building quite the razer collection... i have a boomslang 1000, boomslang 2100, and the diamondback so far!

Man I just couldn't get used to the low profile design of the razor. I tried out their mice at quakecon. Very nice, but not my bag.

I do like my new Logitech G7 wireless though ;)

I like the hight, and the large feet it has. Coupled with the fact that it is as sensetive during games as my old MX510, and more precise. Very nice mouse. The batteries have to be switched every other day or so, but the base is the charge for the removable batteries, so you never have to go without. I'd say wait for this one, but it has 1 major drawback and that is the lack of 2 buttons for the thumb on the left side. it only has 1, and I was used to/ really like 2. The G5 is the same design, except wired, so you might wait to decide which you prefer.

Oh and since you are getting a new rig, check out the Logitech G15 gaming Keyboard. Very slick.

Man... If the Copperhead isn't too expensive it will replace my MX310! :)

Bah, just go grab a MX510 for less than half the price and you'll be one very happy person.

shoulda waited for the copperhead.. the plasma is the best mouse out there currently, but the copperhead is so close..

I'll replace my diamondback when it comes out, since it fixes the problems of the diamondback, and has some pretty slick features

Not all people are right-handed :)
Trust me, I'm lefthanded at half of what I do. I know this...

Ok, I jumped to conclusions here, but, still, it was under the assumption he was smart enough to actually look at the thing before buying it... Maybe it's not good to assume, but, I thought this much was ok.

I like mice designed for use on both hands even though I am a righty. I just can't stand the slant of most Logitech mice, and they feel bulky too. I guess I am used to holding small objects.

I have a plasma, and having big hands i have a major gripe that the side buttons are way to small and placed too high. They fixed that on the copperhead

SInce there was already a thread on this very topic on the same page, they are now merged for everyone's convenience. ;)

gl :)

Does anyone know an firm release date on this? Is it releasing today? I'm actually getting impatient for it as both of my mx700s decided to crap out on me. Perfect timing though (if it is released today or this week).

Any news regarding the date?

Get the most comfortable one that YOU want, they'll all perform the same anyway. They hit the limit of refresh/res with the 3.0a so nowdays its all about comfort + features (like variable sensitivity). I've got a diamondback and an MS 3.0a and i cant tell the dif between them at high sensitivity in terms of accuracy.

This is MY opinion by the way, and if you dont like it, have a cry cause i know im right :).

Razer has lost my support in the last couple of weeks due to their terrible technical support. I do love my Diamondback Plasma, but the software has a lot of problems. Until their drivers get some major updating, I'm gonna hold off on purchasing any Razer products for a while.

Luckily enought I bought a mx518 the same time I got my DB Plasma, so the mx518 is my current mouse.

Try both, but my advice is the Razer, of any sort. The MX mice are designed by the most ergonomically retarded people on the planet, and they feel flimsy. The Razer mice are outstanding, feel great and look good, but try both and see what you think

EDIT: having said that. i've just read a review where the guy said that once he'd tried the Saitek Gaming mouse there's no chance he's switching back to the Diamondback. Personally, it seems to me that it goes Saitek>Razer>MX series

I'd go for the Copperhead too. If it's anything like the Razer Boomslang 2000 I had it
should be a great product. Copperhead = onboard memory - separate "X" and "Y" axis adjustments ... great
features for gamers which most other mice can't touch.

To be honest, every Logitech product (mouse or k.board) I've ever had felt cheap & flimsy, and ended up in the
trash much too soon.
And I am not hard on my equipment by any stretch. Have seen several other's
Logitech products go awry the same way so I know it's not just me.
Fail to see why they are so popular - market saturation I guess.

I just bought a MX1000 on Saturday, came home and the dang thing will not hold a charge.
I've tried everything in the freaking book to get it to work, but nothing.

I remember seeing a sweet Razer mouse at E3, as they were still setting up their booth
early day 1, the let us fire up HalfLife 2 and take the mouse for a spin. So I went to the
website, and turns out it was either the Plasma or the Copperhead we were using.. I'm gonna
take the logi-suck MX1000 back and order me up a Copperhead.

Anybody know solid details on when these will be available?

microsoft intellimouse 3.0 or mx518 is great for gaming.if u like small mouse go for razor or mx310. the mousepad a recommend it SteelPad QcK+ its the best cloth pad on the market
