Razer DeathAdder

I'm using it with my Razer mousepad. It's a match made in heaven.
Have you noticed any difference in the speed vs control sides? At first I thought the speed side didn't track very well when moving VERY small spaces, but now it seems about the same...albeit smoother and quicker.

Ratpadz XT.
Don't supposed you've tried the eXactMat?

I had the RatpadzXT and did not find it as good as the eXactmat. The Ratz is very durable but smaller and much slicker. I honestly could not get any control with the Ratz at all, especially with it's smaller size, it was challenging ,to say the least, to be accurate.

I much rather prefer the control side of my eXactmat. The speed side is just as accurate but i prefer the roughness of the control side.

I was using an eXact mat, but recently changed over to an s&s steelpad i won from some online tournament.

aw i miss my S&S, wish that they dont wear down or id get another one...

So how do you change the DPI on the fly with this mouse? On my MX518 I just push one of two little buttons above/below the scroll wheel and there are no drivers or software to load to allow it to work.

I actually just went and picked up this mouse over lunch. I'll post my impressions later..... if anyone cares.

I was happy with my G3, but my cat ate through the cord.

Which do you prefer?

I believe there's a button on the underside of the mouse.

The change of DPI is with a driver. You can assign a button to it. And the little button on the bottom on the mouse is for different profiles. You can store (i think) up to 3 different profiles for your mouse and change them with the button on the underside.

So I would use either the thumb buttons or regular mouse buttons to change the DPI on the fly? (or by depressing the scroll wheel button?)

I held one of the Death Adder mice the other day. Felt cheap, like all Razer mice tend to and I didn't really care for the ergonomics of it.

Right now I started using the G5 v2 and so far it's the best mouse I've used thus far.

Where did you get yours? The only place I can find them is on Ebay...

So $57 for the DeathAdder and $78 or so for the G5 R2. Ouch. Me thinks that's not a justified upgrade for my MX518 for those prices.

Amazon sells a bundle that includes the DeathAdder and the ExactMat for $76 shipped.

i bought mine straight from razer...shipping was fast and the price was without tax :)

WOW. I just did about 4 hours of CS with the Death Adder, and
all I gotta say is that it is smoooooooooooooooth. It's gotta be the
smoothest mouse I've ever used. Be it the 1800dpi or the 1000hz
polling rate, this baby glides.

Using it with the QcK+.

But..... I'm not a huge fan of the ergonomics. I like smaller mice
like the G3 and Diamondback. This one is a little bigger than most
Razers, and not symmetrical. People who like the fatty MX mice, or
even the MS Explorers, would probably dig this mouse though. It's
comfortable and made with great rubbery material, buttons are solid, etc... it's just a tad big for my tastes. Too bad it's not shaped like the Copperhead.

Regardless, I'm going to learn to love it, because the sensor in this
thing is pimp.

The software is also much nicer than previous Razers I've used.

I think I'm gonna sell my G5 for either a Razer or the MS Razer mouse.

The G5 and other logitech mice look so idiotic, cheap, and 17 year old gamer to me. They completely lack elegance.

Nothing like having a piano black case, piano black keyboard, piano black monitor, frost glass desk, and this ugly assed G5 sitting ontop

Who. The. Fuck. Cares?

Jesus... You buy a gaming mouse because it's accurate and responsive... feels good in your hand... not because it looks fucking pretty...

I have a grey monitor, black headphones, black keyboard, silver/black case and an mx518? OH NOEZ!111 it doesn't match :(

Update: I don't mind the new style so much I guess. It is a tad bit less weighty than the previous versions of the Razer mice. Feels good in the hand.

I guess there are NO 64-bit drivers yet for Vista. The reason I couldn't get the OS to see the mice. It will install but that's it.

I just got this mouse, and I like it, not sure I will grow to love it like my copperhead or before that, the Diamondback. I am not sure I like how they flared out the bottom left palm area to make it fit better into your hand, which to me, it doesn't feel like it does. The old style, I hardly noticed the mouse in my hand, the new Deathadder, there is that annoying bump on your bottom right palm now .....

Slight bit disappointed ......

May return it .... This sucks

I really hope they go back to their old style with their next mouse release whatever snake it will end up being named after.

btw, my uncle got bit by a copperhead snake during a flood. This was in Texas back in the early 70's. I was just a kid, but, his arm got to be about twice the size it normal should have been. He was lucky not to loose it.

Also, another annoying thing is, the Windows Vista 64bit drivers .... I cannot tell if they installed or not. I guess the pointer is moving a bit different but I could be seeing things. I sure would like my Deathadder Control Panel so I could make some changes but, after installing the drivers ... It doesn't seem to be installed.

Does that mean the driver wasn't installed correctly? It sure seemed like it installed ok.

Not sure what to think about my new Deathadder.

I'm thinking I may just stick with my old crusty copperhead ( needs cleaned )

I think it's idiotic to rule our a gaming mouse choice because of the color it is.

"Darn I can't concentrate on playing, my mouse is so Ugly!... if only it matched my... MONITOR! Then I could enjoy this gaming experience"

Yea...

I grabbed a 2142 G5 for $25 off Woot during the woot-off... It's ugly... but it was cheap :D maybe put the 518 down for a while...

...and?

So how do you change the DPI on the fly with this mouse?
You don't. I never actually use that feature, I prefer to use the high DPI of my high DPI mouse ALL the time...freakin' n00b.

I believe there's a button on the underside of the mouse.
That's not an option. The button on the bottom serves no purpose...useless.

The software blows compared to Setpoint + Uberoptions, but then I don't exactly have any extra buttons to map...bastards.

Who. The. Fuck. Cares?
*raises hand*

I just noticed this today during regular browsing. I will not use 2 mice. If I can't get used to it...

Well...Dan? What's up? ;) I want DA and w/ the 3 button top layout of the MX518...lowered big ass hump would be nice too.

EDIT: WYLM, buy.com for $50 shipped, but they're OOS right now.

I'm not really sure what you are asking.

Got a death adder today by chance, after trying the mx-revolution by logitech, which sucked hardcore, the revolution would get confused if you moved it fast and move the cursor in the opposite direction that you intended to move it, I tried increasing sensitivity
but I can't adjust to that style of play (I play CS:S). Took it back, got my $108 dollars back, and got the death adder. The death adder comes so close to being a good mouse for me, you can move it as fast as you can and the cursor doesn't go in weird directions, I thought I was set, then I tried to play a game of CS:S, every few seconds, I instinctively, tilt or pick up and drop the mouse a few centimeters so my hand + wrist are more comfortable for the given situation, typically right before I expect some action, so I'm as ready as possible for anything, but this is a constant struggle even with the death adder, I would pick it up and move it over, but the cursor would still move, it's too annoying to play without being able to barely tilt the mouse and slide it and have the cursor stay in position, so I'm taking the death adder back as well, and getting another MS intellimouse ps2 ball mouse, I wish someone would make something like a razor or revolution without these issues, but I suspect all optical/laser mice will always have the lift-off problem, since I believe this has to do with the mice's ability to be used on glass surfaces, I hope all 2 or 3 people that do that with a pro-gaming mouse are happy in leu of the rest of us having a completely smooth gaming experience by having the mouse not see more than just beneath its bottom. ;( (had this discussion on arstech too, if anyone gets deja vu)

ps. Any optical/laser mice known not to have the lift off/fast movement problems by chance, specifically how's the g5? probably not, since razer's seem to be the cream of the crop for gaming mice.

Are you on latest firmware and a good pad? I could probably fit a cd under mine...anything more and cursor ain't moving, ie lift off's a non issue and better than the 518 for me.

It said the firmware was up-to-date when I tried to flash with the latest version. I'm looking at it right now and I'm thinking I could fit 5 CDs under it while still moving the cursor. Basically if it moves the cursor with any lift off my hand will be uncomfortable and I won't be nearly as good playing games as I would be with a less-precise but no lift off issues ball mouse.
I wish something could be done, because I would love this mouse for ever if not for this one little problem. ;(

Somethings not right then. Try different surfaces.

I just stuck 6 CDs under the death adder, and no movement was evident, I took one CD off the stack, put the 5 remaining about 2 milimeters directly under the mouse, and was able to move the cursor consistantly on a pro-gaming mouse pad and my wooden desk. So..

Hmm, i generally thought only laser mice suffered from high lift-off. Bugger; the main reason why i was going to opt for the DeathAdder over the G5 was due to the optical sensor which, i thought, would act like older red optical sensors and not track movement at all when lifted off.

It doesn't. But I need to get used to the hump or...or I don't know what I'll do!
