Yeah...ok...


I just reformatted, and it's home edition. Its asking me to activate windows, so I click activate. Everything is fine until it says:

"this key has been activated too many times"

WTF


ITS A FRIGGIN LEGIT COPY.


god....


so what do I do? Im not shelling out 80 something bucks for software I already own.
 
um Call them?

Isnt that the simple solution?

I have had to call this copy in like 50 times. w00t for reformatting

Your unlikely to receive a prompt reply via email, you should call them. Did the software not prompt you to activate via phone?
 
Its OEM...but we've only used the key 3 or 4 times. If you buy the software, its yours, I dont see why there should be a limit.

:rolleyes: How many times is this going to come up before people finally get it. You don't own the software, you own a license to use it, meaning you have to play by the rules. When your activations are up, you simply make the phone call and be done with it. It would have taken far less time than it even took to type up the e-mail to them.

I don't do it often since I have a VLK version, but anytime I've help a friend or relative activate their copy of XP, it's been easy and painless. Why the hell do so many people have to get their panties in a bunch over something simple?

sorry, but I havent been hardcore into this kind of stuff as long as some of you. There are some things I dont know.

As someone else mentioned, it should have given you a toll-free number to call. It isn't about knowledge or experience. Microsoft makes it easy so the average Joe sitting at home in front of their computer can handle the activation process.
