Im just giving this email just in case someone ends up with the same problem as me.

My computer started rattling the other day, it was like a grinding, clicking, odd little rattle, I got a bit worried, so I turned the computer off, checked everything I could possibly check, and found nothing out of order, nothing....

I reassembled, and started up, only to find teh sound was still there, a bit baffled, I let it go, figuring it would go away in a while.... it only got louder. A bit bothered by it, I took the cover off my case, and listened for it... it was difficult to hear where it was coming from, thought it might hve been a hard drive at first... unplugged it and restarted computer, still there... decided only thing left were moving parts, i put my ear real close to the CPU fan and didnt hear anything (didnt want to touch that one), so I started touching all the remaining fans by hand....

It was my Graphic card fan!

I have a Built by ATi 9600 Pro, that I got less then a month before the XT's came out (pissed me off too), bought it at PC Club on North May in OKC. I dunno if I got a lemon, or if its a common problem, but wanted to give a heads up, just in case...

I ended up buying a BFG Fan from Comp-USSR, it didnt fit perfectly as there were a couple components in the way, so I used a dremel and cut off some of the underside of the fan aboe the components. I didnt want to RMA the card, as Ive been meaning to void the warrenty anyways.

My 9600pro fan is also very, very crappy. Every few months I have to oil it or it'll make an awful lot of sound. I've been thinking about changing it, but I'll probably just change the entire card instead.

Same here on my 9600 and 2 8500's ... WD40 solves the problem for a lil while but it always comes back. ATi will service it via RMA but that means you without your card for a few weeks. Those little fans are turds.

ATI offers advanced RMA if you give them your credit card number. Replacement card is sent first, then you place your old card in the box and send it back.
They authorize the retail cost and once you send in the old card, they release the authorization.
