with windows aero on I get those in games but ONLY if the games are in window mode, once I fullscreen they disappear. Now, when I turn aero off, they disappear when in window mode. I've tried different drivers, I've tried with the card underclocked, I've reformatted, but none of that seemed to fix it. I'm not quite sure what the problem is. In Quake Live and DooM 3 they happen regardless of if aero is on or off or if i'm in fullscreen or window mode. The strange thing is I had to take a picture of the screen because they wouldnt show up in screen shots. But in Quake Live they do show up in the screen shots. http://i.imgur.com/kLmNR.jpg

core i5 2500k
asus p8p67 pro
4gb corsair ddr3
amd 6950 2gb

any help would be great

EDIT: also, last night, everything was fine and that never happened in any game even with aero on and in window mode. But when I turned my PC off for the night and tried again it happens with aero on but it's still fine with aero off.
 
you'd probably have tried this if you had one, but i'd start troubleshooting hardware. since you're using a p67 board you can't give the on-board a shot at it. if you have another/older video card you can always try that.

it looks like data corruption - and if it's in the vram you're going to have to swap cards to determine that. it could be a number of things, i've seen bad PSU's do that kind of stuff as well. give gpu-z a shot, and post some more information. what's your psu brand/wattage/etc.

I've run things like furmark to stress test the card with aero on and off and nothing of the sort happens in either scenario. I've tested my RAM with memtest for about 12 hours and got no errors either. I do have an 8800GTX downstairs I could test out. I wouldnt know how to test the psu as I don't have a spare one kicking around. The PSU is a Corsair HX750, I forgot to mention that.
 
Sorry for the double post but everything works perfectly with the 8800GTX. So I guess that means the vram on my 6950 is faulty? =(
 
it's entirely possible. we've at least determined that the problem isn't software/driver based.

you have to consider the 6950 probably draws a bit more power than the 8800gtx - so it still could be the PSU. the only way to test the PSU is to check the voltage under load - with a multimeter. gpu-z also reports VDCC, and my ATI draws .950v idle and 1.200v under load.

if you're unsure of how to use a multimeter or gpu-z isn't conclusive then you can always RMA the 6950 and part-swap test ;P
 
I've never looked at PSU stuff before so I basically have no idea what you just said xd

I just find it weird that in fullscreen mode on games, aside from doom 3 and quake live, it never happens. That doesn't seem very power supply oriented to me unless I'm missing something.

75c is a little toasty but i'm going to stick with your 6950 being faulty. you could always take it to a friends/computer shop and ask them to test it.
