What do ya think? I plan to overclock this beast like a mother fucker to push every drop out of it. Which is why I paid a little more to make sure the Athlon64 was the newer revision CG

Looks good, people are going to tell you that the Chaintech is crap, but trust me, people are getting some vicious overclocks on that board. The only wall you might hit is with the Geil. It overclocks fair, but its not for high FSB OCs. Trust me, I have a 512mb stick of the same stuff.
 
O really? Should I upgrade my memory? and what would you recommend?
 
I had that fan... don't like it at all. Get panaflos or papsts!
 
I heard the CHAINTECH VNF3-250 is a solid board

I hope it is, I just bought one :/

...not to thread crap, but I have to ask why you didn't like the Vantec ThermoFlow fan. I've been using them now for some time, and most folks (myself included) really like 'em. If you are talking in terms of how much air they can move, no Q that a Panaflow (or a Delta "Black Label"... :D ) will move more air, but the TF's are designed to be quiet, not win the airflow prize. That, and they are designed as exhaust fans; if you use them as intake fans, the thermistor won't ever speed them up, as the air coming into the case (read by the thermistor) will always be cooler than the air in the case......

Anyway, for desktops, they are still my fan of choice. Haven't lost one yet.

Actually, I was referring to the Smart Fan II that he chose for cooling his CPU. I had this fan, and hated it for noise/performance ratio. I'm sure the ThermoFlow is a nice fan though ;)

Stick with the Geil for now and see how far you can take it. If you cant get anything too solid (above 225), then maybe some Corsair XMS, Kingmax Hardcore, or you could wait for Buffalo's new Firestix. But just see how the Geil pans out first...

I was looking (and still am) at alot of more expensive boards, but all they have is a bunch of features I dont (or cant) use. Only problem I have seen so far (which is not a problem for me at all) is the no firewire (its onboard but you need a controller card ot access it). That is from what I understand after reading these reviews.

pros:
damn fine system buddy.
OC like a biatch.

that board is good, it has AGP/PCI locks (i'm pretty sure) and it has the RADex cooling thing too (just like the 150, right?) so it should OC nicely.

HOWEVER, if you have a SATA HDD (which the Raptor is...) your OC will get damned to hell faster than you can say "Lucifer".
When you OC the FSB, you'll OC the SATA thingy too, which will fsck it up..that's what's happening w/ me :(
 
Is this common Carnival? I am getting that board, a A64 3200+, and was thinking a SATA HDD. I wanted SATA strickley for the speed but I might (if this is common) get a smaller 10k IDE and another larger 7200 IDE. Any advice?
 
I agree, ditch the smart fan. I have it and its noisy, even at low speeds

Seriously? I do have a SATA controller card so thats not a problem I guess. As for a bigger cache, that only improves performance by 5 percent or so and I hear that they don't oc as well too (could be wrong on the oc part).

I cant wait to get it
