I know the ivybridge is being released soon and the new 7k series from ATI/AMD has been released also. But this is what I have come up with:

Combo: $755
CPU: Intel I7 980
Mobo: EVGA 131-GT-E767-TR X58

Combo: $423
GPU: XFX HD 6970 2gb
Memory: 6x4gb Patriot Viper DDR3-1333

OS SSD: OCZ revodrive 80gb $249
Gaming SSD: OCZ Revodrive 3 x2 240gb $675
PSU: Corsair HX1050 professional series $220
case: CM 692 mid tower

Air cooling, if Liquid cooling I will go with two swiftech 220 w/ built in pumps, swiftech apogee HD, Swiftech Komodo.

Now I am wondering if this will fit in this mid tower case. If not then I want to wait for that new case that NZXT released, the switch 810.

Current PC specs below.

Thanks,
Mark

Why socket 1366?

Why not go with some faster ram?

Why not just go with one big, fast sata3?

You could go 1155 and with the money saved get a 7970. That would also give you some sata3 ports.

True I was looking at the 2600k also, but I want to see what ivybridge has to offer before I actually make the purchase.

Congrats on a pointless thread then :)

Not really since Tricky0502 pointed out the Sata3 SSDs, I didn't think that some of them would match the speeds of a PCI-E based SSD. Changed the 80gb one into an OCZ vertex 3 120gb and would end up saving $150.

@Tricky, I have an external hard drive in which I put my media into. Like I said above, the OCZ vertex 3 will save me $150. I will save up to 50% if I switch the other PCI-E based one into a Sata 3, but the faster speed is what draws my attention. Also I switched some of the parts that you recommended and the total price was about the same. So I am leaning towards the I7-980 at the moment. Ah I see why you were wondering "Why 1366", some reading and I stumbled on the new socket.

Ok so some pointers.

It is very unlikely Ivy will support Socket 1366. It will support socket 1155. So you're better off going with the i5/i7 if you want to keep options open for IB.

Unless you are doing enterprise level work, you won't EVER need a PCI-E SSD. It's a total waste of money for just gaming. You won't see any improvement in performance.

You won't even use 8 gigs of ram for gaming, much less 24. At most, get a MoBo with 4 slots, get 4x4 for 16, that's plenty.

For a single GPU build, you won't ever need 1050W. Get a decent 750W and you'll be fine.

And yes all of that will fit in a mid tower.

I have heard Ivy Bridge won't be much of an improvement, so don't get your hopes up.
