Ok, backstory. I built a computer last year at a mid/low pricepoint.
Biostar tforce4 am2 board
amd x2 3800+
7900gt voltmodded
3gig total memory (ocz and crucial)
As my first real system build from scratch I was proud of it, but I'm predictably unsatisfied.
My videocard is inevidably dying a voltmodded death. I need to get a new one fairly soon, but can't imagine a video card upgrade on this mobo/cpu combo. Especially since my motherboard is shitty.
My plan is this,
GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R as a futureproof motherboard solution, should support ddr3 when it gets reasonably priced and intel's next gen when it comes out.
intel dual-core 2160 allendale as a mighty-mite overclocker. known to me through http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/09/12/pentium_dual_core/
come christmas time the new graphics should be out and my 7900 should be on it's deathbed.
sometime down the road upgrade to ddr3 and a solid next gen cpu.
does this sound as good to you as it does to me?
another reasonable option I was considering was to forego the cheapo cpu with upgrade plans and just drop in a 6750 for long term use.
